Honestly the situation is so bad I wish they would put a housing FREEZE on, so that houses weren't even being sold at all! That way we wouldn't have so many of us sitting here wasting our lives on a 5% chance to get a house. Just turn the whole system on pause until more housing is released because as other players are saying -- it is inhumane how it currently works.

Easy, pixel house is a big priority right? If goblet houses are taken too then just transfer. As long as there are free plots to take SE won't add new ones so just fill up the new servers too or quit crying.

There ARE houses available but people don't want them, yet complain about wasting their lifes camping? If I had the will to camp a house for over 10 hours (which since I'm sane, won't do) then I'd have the will to transfer as well.

I'm against the idea if giving SE more money to get something that already costs money (gil) and leaving a server with friends, FCs, community, etc... Transferring should be the last solution, not the very first. And I hate it when ppl call complaining about the housing crisis "crying." Way to demoralize and disregard your Peter's real concerns.

But where are they? None of the 8 worlds I'm linked to have any housing available. I've seen 2 smalls go up for sale in Lavender Beds over the last 2 months which is just painful (didn't get either one, obviously). I'd be happy to transfer if I knew there was a server with some housing, but I'm not sure how to get that information.

You can use world visit to check other worlds in the data center for available housing but I'll save you the effort since I just did it a few days ago.

There was one available house on Diabolos and one available house on Mateus at that time, both getting camped and definitely sold by now. There's always a small chance that some player relinquished their house on one of the other Crystal worlds in the last day but you'd still be fighting against people already on that world trying to get it. It's not worth paying for a transfer when your chances of getting the single temporarily available house are extremely small.

Looking at the unofficial census data at https://ffxivcensus.com/ , it's not hard to see why housing is more of a problem on NA than the other 2 data centers. NA averages 11.6k players per world with the lowest population being 9.9k on Malboro and the highest 14.5k on Gilgamesh. EU averages 10.4k per world but the range is more staggered from 6.7k on Spriggan up to 13.3k on Ragnarok. Then there are the JP worlds with an average population of 7.6k per world but only 2 worlds over 8k.

Even if only half of players want to own a house, that puts the critical point for each world at an active population of 10.1k - or essentially every NA world. EU has 3 worlds below that point. All JP worlds except Chocobo and Tonberry are well below that point. Which are the worlds with the available housing? Those at the lower end of the population range.

Yep, I click through all the NA servers daily. I'd be happy to move. $18 for the transfer is worth less to me than the 60 hours or so I've spent camping the placards. Oh well, Ishgard in July maybe and then people will move out of Lavender Beds. A cat can hope.

Unfortunately, I don't expect Ishgard Housing to come with 5.3. From looking at the map for the Firmament and what we've completed (or almost completed depending on world) versus what's not yet uncovered, we've got at least 2 if not 3 patch phases left for the Restoration. Maybe we'll get lucky and SE will include all 3 of the remaining sections in 5.3 if the Restoration content is effectively ready to go and they want players to have something more to do while they work on developing 5.4 under the lockdown limitations.

It does make one wonder just how much NA players really want more housing considering that even with our much larger populations, only 3 NA worlds managed to complete the current phase before the slowest JP world completed theirs. Then again, a lot of people probably didn't care because completing it wouldn't add new housing. Perhaps the number of players contributing will change once completion actually means we get more housing.

You're right, and it's frustrating. Back when Blizzard had server-wide quests to open Ahn'Qiraj, they clearly communicated what the end result would be. I can't prove it, but I suspect that knowing the result improved participation significantly. A little mystery is fun, but the Restoration is a lot of collective work for a pretty nebulous goal (I mean, the housing is almost certainly part of it, but the when and how are up in the air).

I'm getting a little off-topic here, but IMO, adding an Ishgardian grand company would be a big win as well. I'm sure that would screw up PvP, but a new GC based in Ishgard feels appropriate.

We know what the end result will be. The problem is we know that there will be pauses in our progress as we wait for another patch to release another phase of the Restoration.

It's hard to blame people for not participating now when the reward they want isn't also available now and participating won't speed up how soon it will be available. That's very much a western mindset - ignore things that won't immediately benefit you. All we can do is hope that they will start participating when we finally get to that last phase where completion will mean housing is unlocked.
