You could have mechs that punish players in different ways. Instead of 1shotting a players hp pool. Have it smash a players tp to zero instead off there hp. Be quite a hit for melee jobs. Or an amnesia like thing stops you using your skills. They have something like this in potd.
I like this idea. Maybe also apply a debuff that prevents use of invigorate, etc, and stops you being able to receive TP from skills like Tactician etc (basically from other players). Basically a Darkside style MP regen stopping ability, but as a debuff that cannot be cleansed. Make it last say 5-10 minutes (and persists through death so you can't simply die and pass the buck onto the healer to raise you). Add similar stuff for MP, etc, as well as emptying your gauge and preventing any gauge buildup for say 5-10 minutes. I would also harshen the death debuff so it causes 50% reduced damage dealt at 1 stack, and 100% damage dealt reduced at 2 stacks. Debuff lasts 30 minutes. Doesn't reset if you return to the start after dying.

Addendum: Debuff length timers and percentages involved are obviously up for discussion. I just threw out some arbitrary values.
