I just wanted to state, that while I am behind the change to bring either advanced classes or specializations of existing classes to the game, there is one aspect in particular I hope SE won't change.
That being the fact that there is no skill tree. Meaning a system where to gain access to a particular skill you need to unlock existing skills first via spec points and such.
While I understand that this is done to improve developer control over the game balance, I do not think it is such a big issue that the kind of player freedom the current way skills are gained and used should be sacrificed because of it.
By the current system, I mean the fact that abilities are gained as you level up, and to gain access to one ability you are not forced to use other abilities at the same time if you don't want to. You only need to have the correct rank and the required action points to set the ability.
Basically, if I have access to a high level skill I should be able to use it without prerequisites. It's not this black and white in practice since classes would share different specializations (to counter that they can just increase the action point cost of high level abilities of another spec) but in concept I would like this kind of freedom to stay, instead of switching to skill trees "because other games do it we should do it too".
Lastly I want to clarify that this thread is not about specs or advanced classes in general, but a specific part of such system [skill tree].
