    Question about Monk (PvP)

I only just started with the class yesterday (unskilled) But do any of the veteran players feel like it's damage potencies are a tad low considering the lack of CC and low mobility? (you can dash in but not out).

I can easily do two, sometimes three times the damage on my Black Mage and I sill have CC with sleep and an escape move with aetherial manipulation.

I'm trying to figure out whether the skill ceiling for this class is really high and I'm just that bad on it or whether it's a bit underpowered. Maybe both?

I'm a 70 monk. Did most of my PvE as it. I'm not impressed, not the slightest.
Extremely difficult to handle and requires constant movement and rotation spinning.
As a samurai I dish out a lot more dps for a lot less time. The difference in the ease of playing is ... ridiculous.

PvP-wise monks do posses very high burst due to easy preparation.
You don't really need positioning there, you got decent self-heal, you got stun and a very nice double burst.
Monk is one of the few classes that can actually kill a healer 1 on 1 if the skills are timed properly.
Compared to Samurai monk is a PvP king, but it doesn't even come near to a DRK or a Machinist.

My advice is, if you want to get VERY good on rotation and positioning, make a monk, get it to 70, do some PvE.
It will grant you godlike mastery in rotation and positioning.

If you want to DPS in PvP, make a Machinist.
If you want to DPS in PvE, make RDM or Samurai.

Thanks for replying. Yeah, even on the grind to 30 I could imagine that the constant movement on Monk would probably give it a skill ceiling higher than the other melee classes. Bonus points if the tank pulls the mobs around a lot. It's not considered a weak job now though, so there's that.

The problem I have in PvP is staying on people and the DPS loss in chasing them. Sometimes they just run out of my range inbetween the hits on my burst combo and I hit for half of what I wanted to or less. -.- It's not as if I stand in place or anything, I move and try to stick to them. It's probably just me not being used to melee PvP in general and Monk having to link many individual GCD's and OGCD's on a moving target.

The reason I stopped with Machinist is because it felt easier (I kinda enjoy higher skill ceilings). Not to say that I mastered it or anything. It's just that being able to move and shoot made it moreso that I didn't have to think as much about positioning outside of using Flamethrower. Also, Monks have a stun in PvP? O.o Are you sure it wasn't removed in a recent patch or am I something?

Any melee is going to have a higher skill ceiling in frontlines especially. In PvE I think the movement required is pretty similar between monk, samurai, and dragoon. The key difference is Monk is more severely punished for not being in the positional. Samurai you want to hit the positional for the bonus Kenki (which does effect damage output) where as Monk and Dragoon take negative effects. All 3 jobs when played properly are going to switch between flank and rear every combo to every other combo. Dragoon is doing it every combo if played properly and honestly the movement isn't that severe.

I see soo many people exaggerating the positionals when this guide breaks it down perfectly.

Keep in account its dmg boost from Grease 3 and Riddle of Fire
