I think some kind of attack that automatically triggers overheat every say 2 minutes would be neat, you could use it on your opener and every second wildfire. Trying to have it ready using the overheat scale is rough and I'm guessing alot of people either don't use it or know how to use it as effective as possible. This doesn't take away the ability to do a manual overheat for wildfire for a very skilled machinist since you could still do one for every other wildfire while the 2 minute attack is on cooldown.
Something Like Irvine's Hyper shot from ff8 would work well for doing a high potency and triggering overheat to open with directly after wildfire. A high energy lazer causing overheat or something IDK.

I would love machinist to be more like Vincent in ff7 dirge of Cerberus, where we modify our gun to do different things. Kind of building on the attachment idea like gauss barrel.
Have things like a machine gun attachment that makes us shoot faster and works kind of like greased lightning/huton. A sniper attachment that works like old gauss barrel where we do more damage but have a cast time. A grenade launcher attachment that gives us back grenado shot (I miss that move). Rework the heat system into an ammo system so we can only use the attachments so long as they have ammo and reload and quick reload would be used to extend the duration we can use the attachment for, kind of like blood of the dragon.
Also wildfire desperately needs a rework, repurpose the heat gauge into a wildfire mechanic so once we apply wildfire to a mob the heat gauge appears and we fill it with every shot and once it reaches 100 it explodes for x% of damage done, this way it’s less reliant on ping and isn’t screwed over if the monster jumps while you’re using it.
Overheat increase to 11 seconds, too.
I got so many situations where my 2nd cooldown during wildfire doesnt hit with its full strengths, because of ping and server delay.
Animation said it was IN overheat, but SE servers said no.
And Overdrive should be thing even when you dont have NIN and DRG in your party.
Blank is totally useless. Hot Shot should be removed, while Blank should apply a Piercing Debuff instead of a knockback.
Heartbreak should be the same like Misery's End (BRD)

I feel like they should just make it so the Overheat buff doesn't actually start ticking down until Flamethrower is canceled to ensure that you're able to get the most out of it.
Wildfire doesn't count turret damage does it? If not, I wish it would, the Overdrive damage alone might help Wildfire's total overall damage (maybe?).
So with the Live Letter announcing even more classes getting adjustments for 4.3, specifically usability and quality of life things, can MCH get something too instead of just bug fixes? Speeding up animation delays during Rapid Fire would go a long way to improve usability of the class for people with slightly higher latency and it shouldn't be too difficult to implement since they're speeding up the animations for Plunge, Aetherial Manipulation and Between The Lines. I'm not hoping for big reworks or even Flamethrower changes, just do something about the basic latency problems that shut people out from the class.
It's just so sad to see such a massive disparity in usage between BRD and MCH for the support role.
I'd love just anything that makes it easier to get 6 GCDs during an overheat.
I just wanna add my thing here.
In pretty much every game I play, MMO or otherwise, I'll immediately gravitate to the gun-toting engineer-style class if it's available. I've always loved rifles in games, and deployables are extremely satisfying for me to use. In Planetside 2, I was the Engineer. Same in Guild Wars 2. In PSO2, I'm the rifle-toting Ranger. In Skyforge and Tera, I'm the Gunner. In Firefall, I was the Engi-Frame. I've tried so many MMOs I forget, but if there's one out there with a gun-based class, I've probably played that.
In FFXIV, I'm not Machinist. That's the only exception.
Sure, I immediately gravitated to it as soon as I learned it existed. In fact, hearing about Machinist is what originally tempted me to play this game, since I generally avoid the hardcore fantasy 'orcs and elves' thing. But now that I have it, I don't use it. It feels slow, clunky, and generally awful to play. I wish I could pin the source of that feeling down, but...
