To add to the suggestion that NMs should not be attackable for a few minutes after they spawn... what if NMs had random spawn locations (in a level appropriate area), gave a special shout every 30s seconds until discovered (i.e. targeted), and only appeared on the map once attackable?

Would this lead to greater communication between groups in 'hunting down' NMs for the few minutes after they spawned, and thus a more co-operative environment? Or is it better to just have them shown on the map immediately, so that anyone interested can simply make their way there with the minimum of fuss?

This would only make Eureka more tedious by extending the amount of time it takes to kill a NM. The rest would more or less remain the same. In order to make Eureka better, they need to add alternatives to farming NMs and so far, there's nothing like that.

For instance, in Diadem there were those Monster Tracks or whatever right? Well, what if instead of simply grinding the heck out of Cactuars to spawn an NM you found an NM Track. This track could say something like "The NM appears to have traveled to the north". Once you go north you'll find a group of Cactuar that aren't supposed to be there just clowning around. You and the group quickly dispatch these, upon which another set of NM Tracks appear. If you keep following them around eventually you'll locate the NM and get its fight, preferably in a somewhat random location within its own level range or lower. In this sense you have both the grind of killing the mobs, but also a navigation aspect to it that has players actually seek out the NM's and make progress toward it, not just smash a ton of mobs in one spot until the thing spawns. Here's where the better part comes in as additionally, players who actually contribute to spawning the NM (by killing the out of place mobs to find the NM Tracks) could receive small bonuses for each track they help find/spawn based on the damage they/their party did to the group of mobs. This would make AFKing until NM's spawn a less viable tactic you see :P

In terms of NM farming, wouldn't change much. It would still rely on the few dedicated players to spawn the NMs while everyone else follows them around and waits. Tracking will give a small bonus to those who find the NMs, but I don't think it woul change much. This is what still happens with a lot of hunts. You need to do something to move people away from the NMs and right now, there is nothing to do that because of how ineffective normal monster farming is.
