    Glam Dresser & Armoire limits

Can someone help enlighten me as to why SE feels they need limit what goes in these? I just did the Eternal Bonding over the weekend and went to place my items such as my dress into the glam dresser so I can have different colors between my WHM and AST who share the same gear. Whelp it seems I can't place these items in the dresser. I tried putting them in the Armoire and nope, can't place them in there either. I don't understand. I can't even re-buy these items if I was to accidentally misplace them. I checked the Clamity Salvager and all I can do is exchange them for the male version.

I can't even place many items I bought off the mog station in the Armoire.

Because SE uses servers from the 1990's
we are confused why we did not just get a real glam log vs releasing this thing that turned a simple system to a complex one.

Oh.. its 1.0 coding reasons + having 1990 tech servers.

    popular excuses:
    1.0 coding limitations
    server limitations
ps3 limitations (ik it was discontinued)
    ps4 limitations
win 32 bit limitations (newer one)

They've said that they are going to add mog station items to the armoire at some point (can't happen soon enough imo). They also said in the last live letter that they are working on expanding the glamour dresser, and making it so you can retrieve items from it but because of server stability issues they have to be careful how they expand it. I'm not a software engineer but I'd probably guess that the problem probably relates to FFXIV's code and the fact that the operates in a server live state not the physical servers themselves.

Anything that can't be placed in the dresser or the armoire will need to be manually glamoured for the time being. The whole glamour dresser is pretty new and SE will know doubt add more to it in the future, but so far it's an improvement and better than nothing.

    Short answer: Technical problems.

Long answer: Back in 1.0's development, some poor decisions were made. One of them involves how the server and client stay in sync about state. They decided to do this by ahving very frequent resyncs, where the server sends EVERYTHING to the client to update the client's state. Full inventory, stats, all of that. That scales poorly when you do it for tens of thousands of people at once. It's the root of a lot of problems. Like, they can't really add more inventory space because that means more data to constantly sync back to the client. (Other games will do less frequent full syncs and try to maintain state between the two by tracking changes. That's harder to do correctly but works far better because it takes far less load to communicate changes in state than the full state.)

We're still living with that technical debt today. It makes doing anything overly difficult. It's why we got Chocobo saddlebags, which are not available while doing activities like crafting (everything in them can be ignored while you're in a crafting state, thus not requiring more data to be synced while crafting) and dungeons (they're unavailable in dungeons and thus the data doesn't need to be transferred to the instance server). It's similar with the glamour dresser. It's only available in the inn because that limits how many locations the data needs to be available, which means they don't need to have it loaded and synced anywhere else. It's limited to 200 right now because it's effectively an additional inventory, rather than a set of flags for what you've unlocked and haven't unlocked (like the WoW transmog system). It works differently than the armoire but doesn't replace the armoire because... I have no idea, frankly. Likely development budget reasons.

That's why some of us always push for them to fix the server and netcode end of things. It wouldn't show up as new content, but getting rid of that technical debt would let them do a lot more in the future. It doesn't seem likely to happen, though.

The armorie is actually misleading, it is not actual extra storage space at all like an extra inventory. How the armorie works is it literally deletes the gear you're placing into it, replacing it with an invisible voucher that is basically a flag to the server to restore that item when you want to retrieve it (this is why it resets the spiritbond for that item and deletes any customization you've made to that item like dye or a FC crest, the original is actually deleted and it's recreating it as it's original default state).

Hence this is why they've deliberately limited what you can store in there, to reduce the likelihood of errors creeping into the database and causing items to be lost forever (can you imagine the outcry that would occur if someone could place for instance a fully upgraded Anima weapon in there, only for an error to destroy it and make it forever unrecoverable, and SE just says "sorry, but there is nothing we can do?"), as the more larger it becomes, the more convoluted the code and the higher the risk.

Really, the armorie is for special items and nothing more, it's not meant to be used as extra generic storage space.

How else can they persuade you to buy extra retainers?
