    Elusive jump

    Hey everyone,

This post is an idea about elusive jump that I have. I know it probably won't go far but I feel like writing it down.

So currently elusive jump makes you backflip away and lower enmity. Meh, doesn't overly get used. I think if it was changed to have you jump straight up and stay in the air (out of harms way) for a set amount of time (like say 2 to 3 seconds) it would allow you to dodge any AOE attacks that may be coming your way. Then when you land you attack for a decent hit since you'll be giving up 2 or 3 seconds of rotation time.

The old ff games almost always had this skill for the dragoon where when they jumped they would stay in the air awhile. Which was usually great because if timed right would allow you to dodge some nasty attacks and then still drop a bomb.

So yeah that's aboot it so far... If you have any comments, complaints or just feel like trolling drop a message on here. Love to hear what people think.

The best way to use Elusive is not to backflip away from the target, but as a gap closer to backflip towards the target should circumstances force you to disengage from melee range (good examples of this are in O7S). So move away from target/AOE, then Elusive back to minimise uptime loss.

Your idea, while convenient, is also why it would never be a thing. Being able to outright dodge/cheese mechanics this way as a melee would make an already meta Job more broken.

This also gives you a chance to get an extra GCD while disengaging.

FFXI had this, it was called super jump, the dragoon essentially left the field and lost all aggro, the trade off being they were stuck in limbo for a few seconds.

But SE already shut down the idea of giving drg any kind of invincible. People used to complain that DRG should be invincible during jump because the animation lock was leading to a lot of deaths and was the origin of lolDRG. But SE said this would be unfair to other dps who have to actually do mechanics (then gave ninja perfect dodge).

Thief had Perfect dodge and Ninja had Mijin Gakure, i like elusive jump for jumping back into range it's lots of fun after having to run away. jump speed has gotten a whole lot better though i'd say.

On the flip side of that, the number of attacks Ninja's perfect dodge actually worked on before it was changed to an HP percentage shield was surprisingly low.

Elusive Jump is practically perfect as is (and doesn't need a target, so think creatively), please leave it alone.

As for the idea, Jump actually used to work like that (with a small window of invulnerability), but as with most similar abilities, it could too easily be used to abuse mechanics (deadly room wide AoE? not with Jump).

If any jump needs attention, it's 'Jump' itself.

No, Elusive Jump is extremely good as it is. It's an aggro dump, drops binds and heavies, and it's a gap closer; all this on a 30s cd. It's arguably one of the best movement and aggro tools in the game.

Elusive jump can act as an escape or gap closer, aggro dump and breaks bind effects. It is already very useful on 30 sec cooldown.

Yeah I definitely didn't appreciate it for Gap closing until I checked out a couple videos. At first I wasn't impressed by the fact that you jumped away (when it was just as easy to run away, especially since it seems you're still in the aoe until you land) but with closing that gap I actually really like that.

My original post was really just to find a way to make you more 'elusive' with elusive jump.

    Thanks for the input everyone!
