Mac Client with Controller Connectivity Crashing Game

    Hello all,

I'm a PS4 user but I just picked the game up for my Macbook Pro so I could play on the go if I liked. But for some reason - Bluetooth connectivity for the PS4 DS4 doesn't respond at all and when its plugged into the computer via usb-c adapter it will work but it will sometimes hiccup. The controller would then become inactive and select controller 1 which is the bluetooth connection to the same controller by default. So to remedy that I removed it from bluetooth completely and just used it purely wired. After doing so every time i would accidentally budge the connector it would shut off the controller... leading me to have to unplug the controller and plug it back in. AND then once i plug it back in it completely shuts off the client without any error reports. I'm stumped on what to do because I am not a KB and mouse kind of person.

Many thanks to those that may help me find a way to fix this.

I'm not sure if you'll need any of this info but here is system info

    macOS High Sierra V 10.13.3
    MacBook Pro (2017)
    2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 2133 Mhz LPDDR3
    Radeon Pro 560
    Intel HD Graphics 630

Are there Mac Drivers for a PS4 controller? I've never looked into it but the players I know that have a Mac use an XBox One controller.

I've looked up a few things but the only thing I'm finding is that wire works for other people. I'm not sure why I am having an issue. Not sure if the Sony wireless dongle would work for mac either so I'm kind of apprehensive to test that out. It's not expensive but I'd like to know if it would work or if its going to be a waste of money like me just buying a new controller because I thought it was a poor connection.

    I don't have an XB1 so I really would prefer my DS4.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

What exactly do you mean the game completely shuts off? Does it close down and the computer is fine or does it crash the whole computer, requiring a restart?

Do you have any issues with the controller when it's working (dropped inputs, input latency)?

Do you have any other USB ports that you can plug the controller into?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

I have to use a adapter because all of the ports are thunderbolt ports. I did try a new cable and it was working fine.

I just was concerned that I may have ran into a issue that may need to be looked at in a technical prospective. The game would crash but the computer would would be fine and not require a restart.

Thank you for the update DeepGreyDemon.

To clarify, the new cable does not cause your game to crash correct? It sounds like the other one was faulty and the disconnection caused the game to crash.
