I'm a male, and I like playing masculine characters. There's nothing wrong with males playing females, but it's not something I choose to do, and "Play a female" is a ridiculous answer to the issue.
I especially don't want to play a female character, due to IRL circumstances, and I'm sure there are many others who wouldn't even dream of it. That doesn't mean I don't want access to a variety of cute clothes, though.
