Been playing around a month. Just got through Baelsar's Wall (AKA the Magitek Factory).
It's almost non-stop references to FF6 throughout FF14. Seeing that FF6 was my favorite of the series, all the references (Cyan's dream, the Triad/floating island, all those espers, Domans, etc.) really add to the experience.

If I could change one thing - add more musical references. Maybe parts of the Magitek Factory theme in Baelsar's Wall, for example.

Have you done The Dragon's Neck? Have you used the Magitek Armour mount?

There's also the Sigmascape. There's still more FFVI references for you to see.

Technically the Magitek Research Facility is part of the Praetorium not Baelsar's Wall (where you pilot magitek armour to destroy Proto-ultima Arms that block the way), but yes, there are a lot of not just FFVI references in FFXIV but references to every FF game, including some really really obscure ones like spinoff titles such as FF Mystic Quest and FF Unlimited. This thread has attempted to uncover and catalogue as many as possible (and by Azeyma there is a lot), but is nowhere near definitive nor complete.

And speaking of FFVI references, wait until you see the Omega: Sigmascape raid as VanilleFang above mentioned.

Stormblood isn't so much a love letter to FF6 as it is an extended makeout session, heavy petting, with FF6.

Baelsars Wall has nothing to do with Magitek Research Facility, Castrum Abania is more of a reference to that, Stormblood is filled to the brim with VI references, especially Sigmascape.

Yeah, I can see why you might have equated Baelsar's Wall to the Magitek Facility, but it's actually a later dungeon in Stormblood, Castrum Abania, that does that. You ought to recognize all three of its bosses once you get there

This whole game is basically tons of shout outs to all of the past games in the series, much more so than what FFXI did. Lately 6 has been getting a lot of love, but pretty much every game gets a nod somewhere, some more subtle than others.

That scene after a certain fight in Sigmascape. Omega is such a jerk adding that in there, but not the ability to do something in said fight. Also the OP is gonna squeee when they get to the enclave for theme alone.
