I have a two part question. If I was to start my own FC would I be able to convert my personal house into a FC house once the appropriate level is reached? Second: If FC failed and I want to disband it could I revert it back to being my personal house( no further house perchased)?

There really is no easy, cheap way to convert one to the other. On your example, you would have to relinquish the personal, then camp out that relinquished plot and hope you are the one to beat the other campers to repurchase it as a FC house. Same thing going back to a personal.
Your best bet is to keep your personal as a personal, and start a FC, shop around and buy a pot for that FC and keep them separated.

Starting an FC is a wild ride. Can be difficult in the beginning, but also very rewarding. My friends and I started one about 6 months ago. It's nice being able to lead, come up with FC rules, make new friends, and help others in the process grow as players.

I'd suggest keeping your personal because there is no function to instantly change ur personal to a FC house and you don't want to risk losing the plot all together. Also I believe ur fc has to be rank 6 or 8 to purchase a house which isn't that big of a grind but it does require some time. I'm not sure what housing is like on ur server but ur best bet is to just look for an open plot when u have time at the top of the hour because that's when houses auto demo.

There was a point this weekend when it looked as if a large number of my current FC mates and I would be starting our own FC, so we went out and I bought a medium plot (I had the gil to spare). While it couldn't be converted into an FC house, our method (had we needed it) would have been to grind the FC up to 6, and then when we had the gil saved to purchase the plot, I would have bought a small, throwaway 1 mil house in the FC's name, relinquished my medium, and relocated the FC house to the medium.

It's double-purchasing, but depending on the server you're on, that might be worth it rather than trying to camp it and pray for the best.
