PC Controller goes crazy

I've posted about this before but the topic seems to have disappeared without resolution.

Basically my controller (4 different controllers- Xbox 360, Xbox 1, PS4, PS3) goes nuts every once in a while for no apparent reason. So if I'm pressing the A/O/L/R.. whatever button, if they issue occurs, it will act as though I have a turbo button on. Same goes with movement. If I'm moving in a direction or moving the camera at the time the issue occurs, it just keeps moving for about 2 seconds longer than it should. If the issue occurs and I'm not pressing anything, everything is unresponsive for 2 seconds.

I've narrowed it down to:
1. FFXIV - It ONLY happens in FFXIV on all the computers I've ever played the game on. No other games have the issue
2. You can replicate the issue by plugging in or unplugging any USB device

I've taken previous suggestions of disabling the Microsoft item in the Device Manager, disabled backup and antivirus software, disabling and closing all other programs.. nothing seems to fix the issue.

Basically what it seems to be is this: Any time the computer scans for or finds a new device, FFXIV loses connection with the controller for 2 seconds.

This has been going on ever since the release of 2.0 without resolution and the only game this happens on is FFXIV. I'm tired of running off arenas for no reason, the devs really need to address this issue.

If you have had this issue with multiple computers since 2.0, can you think of anything on your computer that is common between all of them, whether it be a program or a PC part?

Are all of these controllers connected wirelessly? Or do you connect them with a USB cable?

Can you submit a FFXIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Hi there. Pretty much everything has changed between 2.0 and now as far as parts are concerned. Programs are all pretty basic. Office, Chrome, Steam, etc. It's been from Windows 7, 8, and 10. I've used both wired and wireless controllers. Used 3 different wireless adapters and 4 different USB cables. Tried different USB ports. Tried bluetooth (which has its own issues).

It seems to be when the system automatically scans for hardware changes or if you input or remove any usb device. I've now tried it on my friend's and brother's computers with the same results, and my Surface Pro. I'm not a programmer but I think there is a programming issue in XIV. I've confirmed it's happening on 7 different computers now, and the surface is a fresh install of windows as it was just purchased, literally windows 10 and XIV. The issue does not seem to happen with a mouse and keyboard setup. It's literally JUST FFXIV with a controller. No other games are doing this.

Hi there. Pretty much everything has changed between 2.0 and now as far as parts are concerned. Programs are all pretty basic. Office, Chrome, Steam, etc. It's been from Windows 7, 8, and 10. I've used both wired and wireless controllers. Used 3 different wireless adapters and 4 different USB cables. Tried different USB ports. Tried bluetooth (which has its own issues).

It seems to be when the system automatically scans for hardware changes or if you input or remove any usb device. I've now tried it on my friend's and brother's computers with the same results, and my Surface Pro. I'm not a programmer but I think there is a programming issue in XIV. I've confirmed it's happening on 7 different computers now, and the surface is a fresh install of windows as it was just purchased, literally windows 10 and XIV. The issue does not seem to happen with a mouse and keyboard setup. It's literally JUST FFXIV with a controller. No other games are doing this.

I would liken to suggest filling a bug report on this issue. You can do this on the "in game bugs" forum using the following format.

I've had this exact problem before, and I found it to be due to a high ping between PC and game server. A move and a change of ISP fixed this and have not had the problem since.

Thanks, I don't have a high ping though, and it happens when I take my laptop to multiple different locations with varying speeds and pings. Also if it was a ping issue, my PS4 would have the same problem and it doesn't.

Yeah, well, it was a latency issue for me. It used to do it everytime I play, and I always play tank, and it would always walk me into something and get me killed. If you're connecting via wi-fi, that really isn't the way to go if you can help it, at least when home. Wired usually works a bit better. It wasn't to the point where I was constantly lagging either but still had these same controller issues everyday. It was very frustrating, as I'm pretty sure that it is for you too.

Like I said, it used to do it everytime I played but it has not done it even once in over a year since my move. And yes, it can occur on your PC and not on your PS4 because your PS4 connects to PSN first and is then relayed to SE's datacenter, so it might take a different route alltogether to get to the server. One cannot just assume because their PS4 doesn't do it, that it's not their ISP. There are many factors, including DDoS attacks that happen all the time somewhere in between you and SE, and neither can remedy this type of attack.

For others and myself to better help you, there has to be a process of elimination, even if you think that something isn't the problem.

The first few things I would ask you to do is:

List your ISP.
Go to speedtest.net and run their speed test, and post up all results, download, upload, and ping.
Go to your character screen and tell us how it rates your connection. Good / Fair / Poor, ect.
