Experience drop, the "AFK NM" problem

NM's create a problem where people afk and wait to get their free xp. Chaining mobs, while better than afking, for a lot of people, especially low levels players, is a risk of not making it to all the nm's in time. Creating this "its better to afk at a fate than miss it" type of problem. We also have the problem where chain xp isn't good enough for people to feel like its worth time doing in between fates. We know that it is the best xp to chain mobs while other people spawn the fate, but the mob xp doesn't feel rewarding enough for many players to actually spend time doing it. mob chain xp and fate xp should be adjusted so that parties that chain mobs are more encouraged. As the gameplay is more rewarding than afking for fates and tagging it so that you get xp. To clarify NM's should still be there. But they are SO frequent that you only really have 5 or 10 minutes to chain mobs in between fates anyways. Its not until you get 800xp per mob around 17/18 that you start skipping the level 1/2/3 fates.

    The Relic "grind"

The grind is long to 20. But a common comparison I see is that you're grinding for every relic not just a single one. I think this PoV might make it easier for some people to swallow. I've collected 7 Relics now of the 8 possible I can obtain currently and I have to agree with this way of thinking. Obtaining augmented relics is extremely easy in Eureka and I genuinely appreciate how it feels. I prefer this way more over the past entry level Relic steps. Doing every level 50-60 dungeon is something I never want to do again. Having this progression in both levels and magicite and travel felt like a big improvement over rng item drops and level syncing down. I wasn't just grinding for a relic. I was progressing my character in this new environment. Pazuzu as this final boss was also amazing.

I genuinely love Eureka for these reasons and hope they don't abandon it.

It's a grind, but so much of this reminds me of Final Fantasy XI, I'm just living in the nostalgia at the moment. Running through areas full of mobs, finding a safe camp where nothing respawns so you can chain the same mob over and over as a puller brings in new ones. It's like you warp back into the past, even the NMs are the same. This is just the initial release, so I'm sure they'll add/change things based on feedback.

I was actually banned for the first two days of patch and was done 2 days after. Doesn't take as long as believed

Once you get to a higher level, it becomes a lot easier. The problem at the early levels is that the FATEs don't award Anemo (spelling?) crystals. Once you level up, you start getting them in massive numbers and it becomes significantly easier to grind relics. The problem is that the early levels are tedious and grinding feels much more tedious.

My Eureka feedback, level 17 at the moment:

I love it. I love the genuine sense of danger the instance possesses, I love the sense of progression - of how mobs that were previously terrifying become survivable 5 levels later. You can feel yourself get stronger in a way that a few iLevels of gear doesn't allow; for example, I can do my daily hunts, 60-70, on a 60 class. There's no danger there.

It also has restored some of my hope in the community, with everyone going out of their way to raise others, even off the train.

Edit: I also love the style of quest progression and relic progression. Rather than having the relic tied to some extraneous quest, we're getting actual lore and a story tied into the MSQ. Absolutely an improvement in every way over the previous two relic stories.

It might look long at first yes, and like you said you're more grinding for multiple relics instead of just one.
But how long is it really? Anyone remember those books from the ARR relics? or the light farm in both ARR and HW relics? when those came out they took a long time, hell, MOST steps for relic weapons take a long time, some even after the nerfs. (assuming you're not at 2000 poetics)

I managed to get to level 19 just within a week from release, while only being able to play in the evening (the exception to this being wednesday and saturday) AND I split that time with civ 5.
A week to complete a relic step is very reasonable if you ask me.

I agree with you, and I love Eureka as well, and definitely want to see more, even if they get kind of lazy and only up the level cap with every new zone (though, considering it's a whole new zone it isn't THAT lazy) I'll be sure to grind all of them to dust to get those relics.

    Eureka: a better relic grind?

I think my feeling about Eureka is currently: it's (much?) better than the previous relic (or other) grinds, and kind of fun (one Anemos i355 weapon so far and will almost certainly do more.)

Atma was universally reviled when it first came out. Personally, I particularly loathed the Crystal Sand/Vilekin phase of the Anima weapons. And although it wasn't strictly a relic quest (and I leveled up several random jobs doing it) the Yo-kai FATE grind was also a kind of evil madness from hell...

Eureka, in contrast, seems a lot faster/smoother than Books/Atma/Light/Aetherial condensation/Vilekin/etc. farming and it's somehow more fun because of the danger and all of the FATEs being in one big zone, and needing to be in a party.

Eureka also got me to play more RDM, which I hadn't really done before; and it may get me the good samaritan achievement also!

Although it was possible to level up while doing atma or light farming, this is built into Eureka and it gives you benefits and makes the grind go better over time, which gives a sense of progression. (Yo-kai actually got worse over time, which made it even more frustrating.)

I like how we have at least 3 (!) paths for i350 gear - Sigmascape, Eureka, and crafted!! I wish they were a bit more diverse in terms of things like set bonuses or non-stat based secondary effects (e.g. resists sleep, reduces enmity generation, increases ice damage, boosts movement speed, etc.) but I have sets of all 3, and it's nice to have options.

But the best thing about Eureka? No heavy status when you get hit on a mount. (Heavy+Sylphlands fans will have to wait for the next area probably... ;-/ )

I have been hearing it gets better, and even addictive at higher levels. I remain skeptical of this after my first couple, very disappointing, forays in. However, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Now that a housing project I was hired to do is over, I'll poke my toes back into Eureka. If nothing else I don't want to have to repeat this damn step again later.
