It is true that more money makes a better game however, but given the large scale in time from 2002 and 2018, software has very much to do with the improvement of games rather than pure money. If the 2002 Dev team of FFXI was here today making the game again, do you really thing with what their budget was, they would put out a game similar to what they made before? They made a game for the technology at the time, and it was a good game for the time it was made.

FFXIV is more grindy than other MMOs I will agree with that, but nothing compared to Eureka. If you really generalize the term grinding, then you could apply it to everything. For instance doing dailies is grindy or getting tombes are grindy, but you have other options and means of obtaining such tokens/items.

Eureka is just kill mob. Kill mob. Kill mob. That's as clean cut as a grind could ever be. You can agrue that the game itself is grindy, but some grind can be ok, but this is pure grind to its core and it's upsetting a few players cause of that. In addition the combat style of FFXIV isn't suited for a grinding game like this. Usually people generalize and joke about hitting maybe 1 to 3 buttons, but that's what is happening for this and every encounter. The only thing that changes is changing your elemental wheel, which isn't a high level of dynamic gameplay in my opinion.

Getting the product out isn't a fair argument in this situation given how early this was announced and they said we would receive less content due to resources being put into this game.

I want quality content for FFXIV and it's just my opinion that Eureka isn't suitable for the number 2 most subscribed MMO in the world.

No one asked for the grind but SE knows we are going to do it because they put stuff we want behind the lame grinds.

Every game needs to innovate. No matter how fun the formula, it gets stale eventually. That's why people stopped playing FFXI. Yet Square seems to want to go backwards and bring out of date systems and release them as NEW content for us without even innovating anything new to it. The one word to sum up this entire expansion is 'Lazy'.

Look at MHW or even Wow for example. Despite what you may think of those games, they try to maintain their basic successful formula while also trying to innovate new things to freshen up the experience. FFXIV just re uses the same old 'tried and true' method and brings back a bunch of old things that people once liked. It really just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't want to think they are just out of ideas.

While I won't talk about MHW, however I can tell you, just as I discussed with lorelei that Wow pushed it too far in that direction and paied the price, with some really despising it for what it as become (I'm not that far yet).
It's not something that is easy to do because it needs a certain balance but let's say that wow didn't really started to change mid cataclysm till then it's formula was pretty much set

    edit limit and whatnot:
I can agree, though presentation can make the difference, but sometimes I have the feeling that the quck patch cycle is actually having a hand in this. I wonder if with patches more spread out they would be able to deliver content in a better way or maybe if they should just keep a formula foir the patches and add ANY new system on expansion release instead

I would agree that WoW prior to cata did indeed have a formula, but it isn't as heavy as the formula FFXIV is using at the moment.

    Dungeon at 51 and 61.

Primal fight at 53 and 63.

    Dungeon at 53 and 63.

    Dungeon at 55 and 65.

Primal fight at 57 and 67.

    Dungeon at 57 and 67.

Dungeon at 59 and 69 (sync).

Then the final boss of MSQ in a 70 trial.

    Then the two EX dungeons.

Then the two primals in the msq as EX versions.

Then the raid and tokens come out. 4 raid bosses.

Then the 24 man raid catch-up patch.

Then the next ex primal which happens to be lvl 70 msq boss.

    Submarines replace airships

    Eureka replaces Diadem

This is meant to compare HW and SB

While I agree that WoW went too far, FFXIV goes too far the other direction and doesn't innovate at all. It plays it too safe. I can understand why since 1.0 was such a disaster that Square probably wants Yoshi to maintain the formula that saved the game. But we're at a point where even the expansions don't bring anything new and that often times new content is brought in and then forgotten about or just half baked in the first place.

While I agree with the rest of your post, I will make one point of argument here. FFXI was always innovating their gameplay, at least within the limitations of their engine. I would argue the larger reason stopped playing it was its dated in a lot of ways. While I love XI and I have gone back from time to time since they have eased up on the time commitments to doing content, it's just hard to get into it because it lacks so much functionality that modern MMOs have like easy to use menus, good mouse and keyboard controls, or even simple jumping over small ledges.
