I called this s**t back in another GD topic relating to this. Eureka is, as i expected, Diadem 3.0. Spent about an hour doing this, and I basically fell asleep at my desk from the zergfest. The zone IS BEAUTIFUL...BUT! This feels worse than old school mmo grinding and this is coming from a FFXI vet. This "content" got delayed for a WHILE and they spent part of our sub money for this trash? They didn't even buff any jobs (who the f**k does PVP anyway?). I wanted some SAM buffs and improvements for some of our favorite jobs (doesn't DRK need some love?)...and instead they give us...Diadem 3.0. GG SE GG /slowclap

I'll stick to my daily rituals: Centurio stuff, Roulettes, Hunts, Solo dungeons for GC seals, Gold Saucer, Housing, Riding my sexy True Griffin mount. What is this Eureka of which you speak? Never heard of it. -.-

Makes me wonder how bad it was as they delayed it quite a bit.
It reminded me of the old EXP farm parties of 1.0 which got boring after slaying the same critters for endless hours, and add the RNG drops of the items needed to buy upgrades, it is even grindyer than the ATMA farming

Makes me really wonder where the budget is going lately. They should put in majority of the money earned from Subs and Mog shops back into the game instead of pouring everything into other projects.

I feel way more bored between patches now in Stormblood than I ever did in ARR or HW, which makes me wonder if I should start my WOW account up again incase Stormblood will not survive until XIVs next expansion if the meager patch content continues :/

I'm slightly annoyed that enemies are just reused models from older content

I feel as though the idea they had for Eureka might have worked if the combat in this game was more exciting. Take Black Desert Online, for example. It's a huge grindfest. You literally have to spend hours killing monsters, except you don't mind because the combat is fast, fun, and flashy.

Here, when you have a combat controlled by a GCD of over 2 seconds, the only thing that's fast is how bored you get after killing just a couple of monsters. The only time combat is ever fun, is when you are killing raid bosses and primals.

So I think what they should have done instead, is added incredibly tough bosses to kill, similar to A-Ranks and S-Ranks, that you are able to solo, but each with its own mechanics they you'd have to learn if you didn't want to get hit HARD.

It's not bad. The problem is that people are zerging everything at low levels, when the content is designed for a balanced party each occupying their own spot. The elemental affinity is a device to get people to find different camps by giving bonuses per enemy type. You actually get ok exp as long as you chain pull mobs in party and not try to attack other claimed mobs. You dont need to pull a huge group, just one or two at a time.

I think people are overreacting on this. Its pretty fun when you get into a chainpull party. Its just the initial experience is a bit wonky.

edit: I mean its better than POTD for sure, and i dont really get grinding hate, considering people grind mounts and spent a lot of time grinding old savage instances for the relic in the past, or fractal continuum for tomes for it too.

There are many issues with Eureka right now.

First, its nothing but a camping grind fest. You pick an element, pick and spot and kill endlessly spawning enemies for hours on end for little XP, giving you carpal tunnel as you grind for 3 hours to gain one level.

Second, the protean crystal requirements. 1200 total to get a 345 weapon (beaten by Mendacity and Byakko), 2700 total for 345 armor (beaten out by Mendacity and Sigmascape NORMAL gear). Anemos armor requires 750 of the anemos crystals just to upgrade it to the equivalent of Sigmascape normal gear (350) with the only perk bring able to dye it. And who knows what ridiculous requirement will be needed to upgrade the +2 weapon to whatever it's suppoaed to be. Even if you farm 12 hours a day, you're looking at months of work for gear that gets beaten out by dungeon tomestone gear that is much easier (and much more fun) to acquire.

Three, as point one, it's a kill fest. There are no objectives to keep things fresh, the fate spawn times are atrocious (have seen one in the last 4 hours), and its just mind-numbing.

I know it's supposed to be an alternative grind, but my god, at least make the gear you get better than what you get with dungeon tomestones and give it some real cosmetic flare to make it worth the grind. Not underleveled gear that's even more obsolete before you actually obtain it.

You know its bad when the zone starts out full of people chatting and a couple hours later, its dead.

I'm probably going to be an odd opinion here, but I actually enjoyed Eureka. Went in solo at first to poke things, saw how slow exp was so I shouted for a party, quickly got snapped up. We started at the coast, farming the level 2-3 fish and frogs; EXP wasn't the fastest, but we'd hit chain 30 pretty quickly with large pulls and AoE damage, and every time you hit chain 30 you're guaranteed a crystal. Still, I only got about 3-4 in the time I was at the coast. Eventually we started moving inland to explore a bit, especially after a shout about an Anemos Elemental that gave buffs. We went to the location, warily dodging the level 13 enemies (for comparison, we poked the wolves, I think level 9, right outside of town? Yeah, they MURDERED us immediately) and soon found the buffing elemental. +10% EXP, and +Damage Dealt/Regen was a very nice one-hour buff that didn't wear on death. Once we got that we backtracked a bit along what we had done prior, and ended up farming the flowering cactuars (level 6) as a level 2 group. In the spirit of old FFXI farming, we'd pull individuals (or occasionally 2) and focus them down, which let us keep our chain up. We saw better crystal drop rates than from the coast (prolly 3-4 per chain, if not more), and managed to push ourselves to elemental level 3 rather quickly. I think I walked away with like sixteen crystals in an hour of farming? Still a bit slow, but we haven't uncovered everything yet.

One thing to say is that we're still early in the content. It's too early to say that all the crystals needed are too much; for example, has anyone popped an NM, gotten information on their drops, or what is inside the lockboxes? For all we know, we could get direct drops on weapons/armor, or we could get a large number of protean crystals to make closing the gap faster. I also observed a much higher drop rate on crystals on higher-level monsters; the level 6s were dropping crystals every 5-6 kills, as opposed to the coastal ones where I'd get 1-2 every 30 kills. It may be that as we progress, the grind gets easier, which is the general style of such systems; you're not farming the high-end rewards at level 1, are you? So as we start to hit elemental level 10 or higher and start tackling the stronger monsters, we may start seeing much better rates. Once we start popping NMs and killing them, we might start seeing more potent rewards. Until we've explored all of Eureka, it's too soon to say that this content is trash.

I will agree with some points I saw, however; I do think that EXP shouldn't be reduced so steeply. It discourages parties working together, which stinks because with enough people you could probably take on even higher enemies due to the DPS dealt. The growth is also a little slow, though it does get better if you can maintain chain and handle higher enemies. I know we broke 3 digits at least once during our cactuar fights (though I *think* that was the Chain 20 bonus; chain 10/20/30 seem to give a bigger bonus for that kill).

Overall though, I think right now I'm going to wait and see, prod at the content a bit more. Hopefully a little perseverance will show that it's not as bad once you get past the initial stages.

While I don't disagree with your points on eureka, I'd like to introduce myself as a player who actually enjoys PVP. Hello!
