    Don't get your hopes too high with Eureka.

    Not every developer knows "the art of MMO",
    not everyone is Hiromichi Tanaka/Hironobu Sakaguchi/Yasumi Matsuno, (SE fired them all, nice...)

    Many FFXI/FFXIV1.x fans had been disappointed & quit,
    Now some white knights are also getting bored....
    I wonder what SE has left lol....

    The current state of SE is just like many other old great companies (Blizzard, Apple, Sony),
    short sighted,,marketing over product quality, then went downhill
    it's too late, maybe a mobile game/anime company is the only way to go

    I'm not sure how accurate it is to say they were fired. Maybe some of them were sort of getting pushed aside from the roles they had been doing and it made leaving the best option for their lives. Fortunately Matsuno was brought back freelance to help with the Ivalician raids in XIV.

    I do miss the times when Sakaguchi was steering the FF ship because they were blazing a path in those days, very aggressive, not afraid of taking risks, innovating and making emotional and beautiful games.

    I guess with how huge the company is now and the insane budgets of modern games, they just aren't able to take such big risks on exploring niches so XV was somewhat modelled after successful Western action-adventure games and XIV took many ideas from WoW.

    I don't like WOW & western RPGs.
    I think SE had invested too much on the CG movies & graphics, & ignored the gameplay.
    Playing XV is like watching a movie, it feels cool for the first few hours....then what?
    They should learn something from Nintendo.

    Odd... the narrative was the weakest part of 15 imo.
    That said, I hated the magic system... basically feels like throwing grenades

    I mean, you could either admit your tastes are niche/older, or you can just live in denial that the only good MMOs were massive time sinks by and large. It's ok to have a preference for those, but ti's insane to argue that somehow your tastes are just better than the booming market the genre has become.

    I wouldn't call it a booming market. If it were developers would still be making new ones.

    They were booming for quite a while during QoL and ease of grinding changes were being made. Old school massive time sinks, insanely long term goals, and grinding are an acquired taste that's certainly fallen out of favor for many.

    And they 'are' still being made, but their cost is an insane investment for most companies.
