Oriental Wood Bridge Placement

I have a friend who has an Oriental Wood Bridge placed over the fence in their estate, which looks neat because it connects the inside of the yard with the area outside. The bridge is perfectly centered over the fence so it doesn't look off either.

I have attempted this with my own estate many times and for some reason just cannot get the bridge centered over the fence. No matter what I try (I am using the placement from storage method), even switching to mouse and keyboard mode, I just cannot get the fence close enough. I have seen a video about it here:

And while it looks easy to place in the video, I am wondering if they (somewhat) fixed this for 4.2? Apparently this was working as of 4.1 but now I cannot get the center marker of the item perfectly centered on the fence.

I have removed my fence and was able to get slightly closer... but still not able to center the bridge. Is there a fence I should be trying this with that has a smaller collision box than the default estate fence? Trying to get this over a Nanpu fence in Shirogane on plot 60.

As you can see with keyboard and mouse I can get it slightly closer because I can place the bridge sideways (which allows me to put it a little closer to the fence) and then using the rotate function, but I still cannot get it centered over the fence. Any tips or suggestions to try? Am I doing something wrong or was this patched with 4.2?

turn Toggle Grid Snap off and maybe it let you align better?

Youll have to do the from storage glitch. The easiest way on controller is to just keep aiming it at the wall from storage, until in position with square. then X when its in the right spot. Switch to m/k to rotate it.

A second way is with the submenu command keybound to something in mouse/keyboard mode. Have the object in storage then preview pull it out, place it where you want and press the subcommand keybind twice to actually place it. Switch into rotate mode and align it as you wish.

I was doing it from storage, but I am unable to place it any closer because I keep getting "unable to place" message when within a certain distance of the fence. If I am facing the fence, I can't get very close to it and am unable to get the cursor centered over the fence at all (first screen shot). If I turn my character sideways, I am able to be all the way up against the fence and place it sideways and use the rotate function to straighten it out which will let me get it a little closer (second screen shot), but when I rotate my character more than like 5 degrees inward to try to get the center cursor over the fence, I get the "unable to place" message again. I have turned off grid snap, tried turning off preview (lets me place some things in spots I cannot with preview on), and placing with mouse and keyboard. When placing with mouse and keyboard from storage, the closest I can get is the second screen shot. I haven't tried the subcommand keybind twice though... will that place something that you normally get the "unable to place" error message from or something?

I know they have fixed some housing glitches (such as troupe stage loft, but another method was found), so I was just curious if they did something to out of bounds placement or if I just need to keep trying. I'll keep at it I suppose. Any particular style fence this works best with to place?

Sometimes the type of fence you have will make it almost impossible to do the kind of glitch you are trying. I had better luck without ANY fence, in my Shirogane. I just had the stock plain bamboo fence that comes with it bare.

Keep in mind they fixed the glitch that allowed people to place items in the void. There was probably a side affect of altering the housing borders slightly so you may not be able to place items as close to the fence now as you could in 4.1.

This might be your issue here, try removing the fence (it should go into your inventory so you can put it back after). I had the same issue placing something in Lav Beds until I swapped to the default fence temporarily.

Unfortunately, like I said in the original post I already tried that :/ The second screen shot was my attempt without any fence while using mouse and keyboard. That's the absolute closest I'm able to get the bridge. I wasn't sure if there was any other fence that has a smaller collision box than the default bamboo fence or not, or if there was some other trick I haven't tried.

This is probably it. I was worried they fixed the glitch. While you can still get items out of bounds, you cannot get them as far as before it seems because I'm unable to place items really close to the fence.

Yes. Well mostly. I still want to get the bridge centered directly over the fence. It looks like yours is further on the outside of the fence where mine is a little further inside. Were you able to do that recently? As in any time after 4.2 release? I tried standing on top of my fence and when placing from storage the preview would show it in the air. I tried placing anyway but kept getting "unable to place" error. Any particular trick you used to do this?
