This was my first thought as well, as they're constantly expanding the Gold Saucer with new content..
However, the ominous "last time we meet" quote truly does sound like the end, but who knows! Very curious to see where this goes.
Maybe the original Princess Edynya was also kidnapped during a festival, and perhaps she was on her way to seen an idol that SHE loved? Perhaps next year will have us rescuing Masha and Narumi from traffickers, and we finally put their whole arc to rest? *shrugs*"But we got to save this child's soul and help her live out her final dream of feeling like a proper princess and gave her and her family proper closure."
Also above notes. The other event was terrible, the Lonesome Lass was trite, but was actually on subject, had a touch of history, which is what the first two year's were all about.
The ingame history of Little Ladies Day is that the overly protected Princess Edvya Thorne snuck off and enjoyed a day on the town, eventually meeting her love and allowing her doting Father to realize she was maturing. The first year was us learning this through reanacting it with the Edvya minion, and the second year was a Father Daughter pair that were parallels to the original pair and taught us the story of the Senechals.
Why did stereotype popstars happen instead of familial love and innocence?

The first 2 events were trash. Plain and simple. They weren't event fun or interesting at all. Ever since they put the songbirds in I've actually cared enough to do this event right away. Maybe it's the rewards and interesting fates, but I've felt it was a better step up than the first 2 events they had. The old way of just running around talking to NPCs is tired and old. I'd rather have some nice emotes and such to use in fates than to do the old running around again.
What do you think this is? DragonballZ?
lol couldn't resist.

There may come a point, where we will no longer see them again. It's implied during the FATE itself that we may end up killing them. When you cast your glowstick lights on them, they appear on the enemy list and have an aggro symbol. It's a precursor that they will turn hostile and must be killed in another FATE next year. Poor girls...
Please look forward to it

I think you're reading too much into that one. There may come a point, where we will no longer see them again. It's implied during the FATE itself that we may end up killing them. As far as seasonal events go, this one was really bad. Outside of the Halloween ones, they really aren't anything special, but hitting emotes to a FATE in town of all things that you have to run multiple times to get arbitrary tokens to buy everything is extremely mundane.

All Saint's Wake is the best holiday imo. Mostly because it has its own dungeon. As far as seasonal events go, this one was really bad. It would be best to let ze little birdies go in exchange for a new theme for the event~
That amd the Songbirds should get their own HOLIDAY!!!! 8D
