FFXIV acts like I'm brand new every time

Recently every time I open the game is never saves my graphic setting, I log in and it plays the beginning cut scene, prompts me to choose a data center and server and then when I log in my setting are all default when I first started.

I'm not sure what could be causing this or what I changed in my file settings but it has not happened to me in my 3 years of playing. My macros are all the same and my HUD is unchanged but just graphic settings and the log in.

    Thanks for any insight!

    - Are you on PC or PS4?
    - If on PC, have you moved any files or folders around? Deleted/Renamed anything in My Games folder in My Documents?
    - If on PS4, have you uninstalled or deleted any associated files recently?

I'm on PC. I feel this issue started to occur after I messed around the Administrator settings. I just wanted the game to always run as admin. I'm not sure if this did anything though.

Edit: Though my macros are the same my button configurations are reset each time. (I'm on controller on PC, yes I know I'm a meme)

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

The files that contain all of the locally stored settings are in the 'My Documents' folder. Look under 'My Documents' > 'My Games' > 'Final Fantasy XIV.' If it is resetting this information every time, then the game is not reading this folder properly. Makes sure that this folder is here and it doesn't have any weird settings like 'Read-only.'

If everything looks okay, delete the folder and start the game again. You will have to reset everything one more time but it should save the files correctly.

Do you by chance have more than one user account on this PC? If so, make sure the you are on the user that is considered the administer (it sounds like you have tried this in the past, you may have accidentally set it so it doesn't have the privileges to create new files, but I am not certain). Try playing the game using one of the other accounts and see if the files save properly.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Can you navigate to Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn, open FFXIV_BOOT.cfg, and post the contents here, also, check to see if FFXIV.cfg & FFXIV_BOOT.cfg are set to "Read Only" mode.

    When I go to Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn I don't actually have a FFXIV_BOOT.cfg there.

    I have:
    downloads
    ffxivpatch
    FFXIV_CHR004000174ACFC65E
    FFXIV_CHR004000174AEEFFA8
    FFXIV_CHR004000174AF555C3

    FFXIV_CHR004000174B27C082

    screenshots

Edit: I think I found it!

<FINAL FANTASY XIV Boot Config File>

Edit 2: Also FFXIV_BOOT.cfg and FFXIV.cfg did not have a application connected to it. typically what would those programs use to open?

That explains it then, mmmm, ok, set your ffxivboot.exe, ffxivlauncher.exe, and ffxiv_dx11.exe to run as administrators, you can do this by right clicking the .exe and clicking properties > compatability > run this program as an administrator, then click apply, run the game again, and see if it creates those files. These exe's can be found in the install directory for the game.

ffxivboot.exe, ffxivlauncher.exe, and ffxiv_dx11.exe are not running as admin, but it's unchanged in game.

FFXIV_BOOT.cfg and FFXIV.cfg still may be set to Read Only, when I try to click is off and apply it looks like it does it until I re open it to check and read only is checked again.

These can be opened in notepad, or if you have it installed, notepad++.

Your config reset should be set to 0, why its set to 1 is a mystery, here is what my FFXIV_BOOT.cfg looks like, you can copy and past this into your cfg and save it, and it should work, just check to make sure your cfg files arnt set to read only

make sure you click "apply" before you close the properties window.
