Trans players ff xiv, especially trans women, have to deal with a monumental amount of micro-aggressions, "you're not a real girl xDDD"'s, and really uncomfortable sexual questions from anyone they even slightly try to be open and connect with in this game. A trans woman I've know once had several friends she'd known and trusted for years just up and decide they were going to start calling her a man, asking her about her crotch, and telling her to off herself in voice chat once. I'm glad that groups like this exist where everyone can be open and supportive about that stuff if they need to. So, thank you op.

I understand where you coming from. We are still at the crossroad for people who accept or denied these things. Those denied people can be very problematic. Only thing we can hope it wil slowly be accepted, but with some religions... I am afraid it will be a hard battle and the so called SJW's wont be of help ether with forcing it .

But you forget one thing : Everyone has to deal with toxic people in online games and everybody wants a place to have fun and feel good.

Even with your discord. There is always the chance of drama or toxic behavior in it. We are human and nobody is perfect. That is reality....

Make it a fun place !

Wow instead of talking about community all this thread has turned into is petty bickering. Everyone has an opinion, we don't have to agree - let alone acknowledge.

Just move on and enjoy the game.

I think the main problem here is that out of all the minorities that are, the LGBT community are the only ones who like to flaunt their status and then expect not to get any hate on them. You have to realize that people are hateful beings and the only way to not get any hate is to not bring up sensitive issues.

I myself am a minority. I'm Latino, I'm an atheist, but I am also American. With all these things that I am, I will be hated on by someone, be it a Trump supporter, a fundamentalist, or if I was in a European server, some Europeans. I don't get any hate, because I don't bring up my background constantly and flaunt it in front of everybody. I keep these things to myself. Sure, I just exposed myself here to make a point and may get some hate for it, but I usually have a good time playing, because I don't bring up sensitive issues to my gaming.

Another issue with the LGBT community is that you always want to segregate yourselves from everyone. You don't see other minorities do that and making all black FCs or LinkShells for example. I enjoy having friends from all over the world and all walks of life. It makes no sense to separate yourselves like that. You say it's, because of the toxicity and hate, but the only way you can prevent that is to not bring it up. In all my years playing this, I've never heard an ant-LGBT conversation anywhere, or in my case an anti-Latino or anti-atheism anywhere, but that's because no one brings it up. There is a reason certain organizations have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. To prevent these hateful things from happening.

I support the LGBT community the right to be, to live, to marry, to adopt, etc. I have no issues with you, but the way you flaunt your lifestyle is what brings you the unfortunate hate you get. Keep it to yourself and then you'll be safer from the hate.

No, the way to fix hat is for the majority to call out the hateful asshats for what they really are and to make clear that it's not acceptable. Hiding doesn't solve the problem, it just puts it off so future generations have to solve it.

you heard it here first folks, if you want to defeat bigotry you have to shut up about what exactly makes you a minority and become an obedient and neat brick in the wall, having a sense of group identity is for showy, flaunty people, and so much as. mentioning that you're making a space for like-minded people is justification enough for people to go "umm no im the smarter bigger person because i don't need this"

    kindly grow up

    That is ...holy hell.

That is not what Antonio was suggesting here. Could've been worded better (especially at the end) but I get the kind of point he was making. It's responses like this that spark the pettiness that has been going on in this thread since page one.

Except it totally is? According to him, if you bring up any aspects of your irl life in game, you encourage people to be cruel to you. We should all hide who we are as game chat should only ever discuss raid times, hunt positions, and "o/".

To quote a famous philosopher, War, "Why Can't We Be Friends......"

All this is is an advertisement for people of like Minds to get together with other people of like Minds. I mean honestly myself I rather just be another Discord just gay friendly because sometimes it is a little bit of a struggle to be openly gay and not get some kind of backlash on it. Granted you know you don't have to flaunt out being gay but eventually if you're on a Discord for long enough personal life comes out so it sometimes it just can't be avoided.

Honestly the reason i join discord servers like this is because I don't care to have the "oh, you're gay?" conversation when I'm gaming. I have it plenty enough irl, and while I don't mind it, there are a vast amount of other more interesting things we can talk about. At least in discords like this, I can focus more on the game or other conversation topics instead of conversations regarding my sexual orientation.

To add to this. I also come from a predominantly straight, white, and extremely right-wing state. The chances of me actually interacting with another gay person irl are slim-to-none. In groups like this, I am no longer "the gay friend", and that's extremely refreshing.

Those are just a few reasons though.
