    5.0 job skills, what we want and what we want to fix

    Okay so 5.0 is just around the corner, lol, and a lot of us are already speculating about what changes to battle system we'll see. New Job skills, new Traits, new Role skills, deleting, upgrading; maybe they can even add Role Traits. I was making spreadsheet with some skills but before I post I'm curious what other peoples thoughts are first.

    I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

    I'd like NIN to get shadow clones somewhere in the 70-80 range, because it's been used multiple times by NPC ninja now, and learning about the fourth mudra required for it would be a logical next-step in NIN's progression (Though I wouldn't want it to be an actual skill , because I already get enough latency issues with three-mudra combos).

    It could just be an upgrade to Duality if they wanted to keep button bloat low.

    I completely forgot about this.

    They should just bring back the class-specific dispels (But make them learned at the same level) and make Protect a baseline skill to free up two slots.

    I don't play NIN/Rogue often at all, but didn't perfect dodge give a single effect of "utsusemi" before it was changed to a shield type? It was changed because of the ability to dodge mechanics otherwise unavoidable; so unless they worked around that problem I'm not sure it would make a comeback.

    Removal of Role Actions.

    Introduction of far more interesting customization options individual to each job.

    Introduction of core, nuanced mechanics early on, augmented indirectly but meaningfully with nearly every action added thereafter.

    Earlier acquisition of core skills, even if at cost of expansion skills acquisition rates (having been siphoned towards earlier levels).

    Reduced button-bloat. Some areas have gone from excessive situationals to bloating even obligatory skills through added convolution rather than added complexity (more buttons, but without a single new decision-making process).

    I’d personally like to see a trait that turns Straighter Shot procs into Refulgent Arrow once you hit level 70 on BRD. Even though BRD doesn’t have any sort of button bloat, it would free up a spot for a later skill.

    Make Army’s Paeon more appealing outside of AOE situations so that BRDs don’t feel like they have to clip it 20 seconds short, or feel like it’s useless (which it is; after you max out on your haste Repertoire, it does nothing, unlike Minuet and Mage’s, which have procs/skill resets).

    I’d also like to see an enmity queller added to their role actions list; they can remove the aggro dump of Refresh/Tactician if they wanted to “balance things”, but I think a queller better suits a job with a monstrous burst (and frequent baby bursts) like BRD/MCH have. I miss my Quelling Strikes.

    Giving BRD more support skills in general I would like to see. I’d also like to see the removal of piercing reliance. It really sucks having your damage so dependent on having a DRG, and it’s one of the major reasons why DRG/BRD/MCH have reigned in the meta since Creator. Remove piercing, buff the potencies a bit to offset the removal, and call it a day.


    Also, like KDSilver said, healer role skills. The worst choice they ever made was putting Esuna in there.

    Faster combat, like making all skills chain quicker because right now it's not really fluid and sometimes gives me the impression it's too slow!...

    Need examples!?... Final Fantasy XIII-2 is great at fast battles, Internet speeds have improved over the last year so faster combat should be possible!...

    I was thinking it would work better as a DPS cooldown by just having your clones imitate a limited number of weaponskills like a fancier version of/replacement for Duality or making them imitate everything for a duration, but with greatly reduced damage.

    I don't think anything like XI's Utsusemi would work with how much emphasis XIV puts on mechanics, because they'd need to specifically code every encounter with the ability in mind to make sure it can't be cheesed somehow.
