    Charging Rent to Tenants

Just wondering if it was "legal" to charge random players fees to rent out my house. I watched a group of players struggle for a house that went up on Leviathan, they sat there for over 12 hours and I felt bad for the 4-5 who weren't lucky enough. So after watching this I got the idea of offering my own up to someone who wanted the housing experience without the risk of not getting the house, since it wont leave my possession. Basically give them full access to it and let them do as they wish and charge a reasonable fee in gil each month until either they don't want to do it anymore or get a house of their own later.

So with all that being said, I don't want to violate any rules or anything but I haven't come across anything that said I couldn't. So if anyone happens to know off the top of their head or something, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure that you can as long as it's all done with in-game currency and/or items, plenty of people sell their houses, crafts, and clears

Selling houses is actually against the terms of use and is a bannable offence.

OP if I were you I'd just make a GM ticket asking this question. Best to get it from SE itself, just in case.

Would you give a total random full access to your house, thinking he will pay to you and thinking he won't take any of your things? What if one day you log and there's nothing in the house? I always think about this when it comes to trust in people online. Be careful.

People can't de-tenant themselves, either, from what I can tell. So.... does your server have zero apartments or something? Except for a garden, everything that can be done in a private home can be done in an apartment.

You actually can under the shared estate settings leave the house. You can also manage it so they cannot re-arrange or pick up furniture, but can tend the gardens and use the facilities within the house

You can remove yourself as a tenant from another’s personal housing. It’s under the housing menu. I’ve done it before.

This is a possibility. I do wonder however, why someone would buy a plot and not use it. Square Enix would not be happy if people started renting their houses to profit from them. Because someone who does that, could instead just give up their house entirely and make room for someone else.

If you really feel bad for those who ended up not aquiring a plot, you can always add them as tenants free of charge, and restrict access to furnishings just in case. That is what I would do if I had room for more tenants.
