AFAIK there is no level restriction in using the master craft books - the recipes will be added to your crafting log regardless if you can use them or not. the method I described before definitely does work, multiple people have made the same error you did.

There is a level requirement, I've been sitting on a master alchemist V on my alt for awhile.

But to the OP, as soon as you are able to use one of them you will be able to discard the extra one.
