This game is in desperate need of graveyards/rez points

So, during a main scenario quest, I was on my way up a mountain in Dravania, knocking out a few sidequests along the way, when I suddenly found myself in over my head. I had got into the Gnath village where Lady Iceheart and myself were to be captured by the bird people so they could take us in front of their god.

I was caught off guard by a few surprise respawns and I ended up dead. (This was before I had Vercure) Luckily, I set my homepoint to Tailfeather, but it was still a long way from where I died. So I had to ride all the way back to the village, fighting through all the respawns.

It got me wondering. Why are there no graveyards in this game? This wasn't an issue in ARR. But in HW, I'm finding the zones much more spread out, and setting your homepoint to the nearest hub doesn't really help.

Someone said something about Phoenix Downs. Is that something I can buy off the market board?

I assume you skipped every story cutscene? If you didnt then you will realize the power of echo forbidden you from death. Every time you got knock out you time skip back to the time you are never dead to begin with, why does game need a graveyard? If you really want a graveyard, you are in the wrong game.

Really? I've seen every cutscene, so if I somehow missed this, I feel like an idiot. Whenever I die, I'm given two options: release or wait. I've waited but have never seen the option you're talking about. But again, if this is a thing, I apologize for this thread.

I think by “Time skip back” they mean return to your home point.

You have a 3rd option and that's to ask for a raise, either a shout or in a FC/LS just do <pos> while in game and if anyone is around via shout or fc you can get a raise.

The person you're quoting is talking about the lore behind ressing. It's explained in one of the first cutscenes of the game. To put it simple, you anchor your aether to a home point (an aetheryte), allowing it to return to that specific point when "dying" (although your health dropping to zero only knocks you out, lorewise)

There has to be some sort of punishment for death. The long journey back is exactly that.

Don't die and you won't miss graveyards.

Phoenix Downs will allow you to raise another dead person - you cant use them on yourself, so they wont help you if you die. All healers, aswell as RDM and SMN are also having a raise-skill that can be used to raise people. You can always try to /shout for a raise (use <pose> to let them know where to find your body), people are often nice enough to give a helping hand there!

And honestly: The overworld is pretty much tame like a new born kitten - dying their occurs very, very rarerly. I honestly cant recall the last time I died to something... so, just as Penthea said: Having to make your way back is your punishment for being careless.

I also assume that graveyards are a mechanic from another game? Because we do have a graveyard location in eastern Thanalan... but thats not what you're refering to, is it?

I don't think it will be an issue now since I just got Vercure. But RDMs can be quite squishy in the level 50s range.

And graveyards are a mechanic in games like WoW, where when you die, you rez at a nearby graveyard not too far from where you died. There are usually multiple graveyards in a zone. All MMOs have something similar, they just call it different things. In SWTOR for example, they're called Medcenters. They are player spawn points.

That is from cataclysm onward, before that wow GYs were not as plentyful like western plaguelands for horde characters it would teleport you to the bulwark no matter where you died.
