XIV's storyline to me is almost as good as no storyline at all and I can't remember any of it because it's such a mess. Same goes for NPC's it's sort of an insult to NPC quest characters in other FF titles to call XIV's quest givers characters at all. They're leve cards and that's all they are currently.

Still looking at the big picture XIII as a game is a complete failure to me as it's almost like a parody of so-called "modern western game design" whereas XIV still is under development and it can be made into a good game if SE let's go of the bad design choices that are never going to be fun. (see all the reviews for further info, do we really need to keep giving them the same critique they've received from pre-launch?)
I agree whole heartedly. The FFXIV storyline has run circles around itself, to the point where the players look into things that aren't even there, in hopes of clarity of what we are fighting towards/against.

We can probabally attribute this to the fact that the vision the original producer had compared to Yoshii's, are at opposite ends.

Still, the focus on the Umbral events shed light on the direction the game is going, at least.
