until 2.0 there is nothing we can do with the onslaught of negative reviews that FFXIV has gotten

always looking for good people.
This is why it was important for Square to keep gamers' good will all the way to 2.0. With the introduction of the subscription model and mounts that are essentially designed to grab more players that good will has been ruined. Square needs players to talk about improvements in the game building up to 2.0 - it's marketing and the few subscriptions to the game shouldn't substantially affect the development of 2.0 if they want it to be a success.
Oh no, I can hear them coming.. run away!
tl;dr version : "I don't like the goobbue mount"This is why it was important for Square to keep gamers' good will all the way to 2.0. *sigh*
Well, respect to placing VI at #1
And i suppose the article does write its reasoning well.
It does not brand this to XIV forever, but looks at the game as 1.0
That's fine with me, and probably accurate even today as a look at now, and not later.

Make it happen.
Just shows how retarded IGN is. Comparing XI or XIV to any other FF release is like comparing apples to oranges.
Account deactivated. Holding out for Guild Wars 2.
I can understand that, but still.
IGN.
Besides, 13 was the worst.
At least they're hopeful. It has improved greatly since those days and the plan laid out by the development team for version 2.0 shows promise. [...] MMOs are long-term investments and perhaps once Square-Enix makes enough changes Final Fantasy XIV may live up to the brand's pedigree.

IGN is all about which publisher pays them the most for the best reviews. Look at TOR for example. IGN gave that game a glowing review, yet the launch looks like its MORE dismal than what XIV's was.
/Agree.
FFXIII was eye candy and nothing else. I am a loyal fan of the franchise, and have played every final fantasy.
Having said that, I found the storyline non-engaging and the game to be very forgettable as a whole. (I can't even name 4 characters or 1 town). And the voice acting for some of the characters... *shudder*
As for IGN, a hopeful tone at the end is the most we can ask for at this point.
At least this installs some silver lining for prospect players.
