    Version Check Error

I keep getting a version check error. I've already cleared out the internet explorer and changed all the settings to their lowest setting there. I've forwarded the ports and I've already tried a limited boot, it only changes the error code for a short time.

I'm on Win7, an wired ethernet connection and my system specs can run the game Maxed no problem. It only started today, I was able to log in and play no problem on Feb.28.2018.....

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

It looks like you have done most of the troubleshooting that we would usually provide.

Have you tried to reset the router (by turning it off, then back on)? Also make sure that your anti-virus/firewall is not interfering with the launcher.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Checked windows firewall and it's set up for every available network type. And I've tried the router on/off trick. Keeps giving me a [30410][30607][10009][19900][12175] error code. I can't even download the actual game, it keeps coughing up this error before the game even begins to download through the launcher.

Thank you for the update Railgunner2160.

We can perform a trace route and see if we can get any additional information from it. Simply press Windows key + R to bring up the Run command. Here, type 'cmd' and hit Okay. In the window that comes up type 'tracert 204.2.229.9' and press Enter. Post the results in this thread.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

I've traced the issue, it seems to relate to Enabling TLS1.1 and TLS1.2 in Win7. Once I add the lines to the registry or use the EasyFix program provided by Microsoft to add them for me the launcher will always produce the Version Check Error.

Are TLS1.1 & TLS1.2 supported by the launcher?? I know that on Win8.1 and Win10 TLS1.1 & TLS1.2 are enabled by default so is there some issue with TLS1.1&1.2 on Win7??

Hello Railgunner2160, Thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

TLS1.1 and TLS1.2 unfortunately really do not have any baring in this case. I do have some suggestions to help:

Ensure that the latest version of Internet Explorer is installed on your PC (even if you don't use Internet Explorer), please do not use Edge as that is a different internet platform. Once Internet Explorer is up-to-date, please open the IE browser, open the "Tools", go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
Under the "Privacy" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or to "Allow All Cookies"
Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED.
    [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
Go to the "Compatibility" tab, and change the compatibility mode to "Windows 7"
Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
    Please RESTART your PC now.

Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"

    Hope to be of assistance.

I've done all that. The problem is most definitively related to the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry. I tested the launcher both before and after adding the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry to the registry. The launcher works perfectly before I add the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry and starts throwing the Version Check error after I add the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry. The Launcher begins working again After I delete the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry.

It doesn't matter if the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry is added manually, or by the "EasyFix" program from Microsoft, once the DefaultSecureProtocols registry entry is removed either by manual deletion or by SystemRestore the launcher works perfectly....

I've spent a couple of hours trying to replicate the issue by adjusting tls settings, and i cant replicate it, if you disable all tls settings, the launcher will fail a -2146697211 error as the launcher requires HTTPS.

I wouldn't adjust TLS settings via the registry because as it can have a knock-on effect, if you need to adjust TLS settings, you can do it within Internet Explorer's advanced tab in the internet options.

If enabling 1.1 and 1.2 is causing this issue, there is likely another issue lingering somewhere.

Thank you for the update Railgunner2160.

It seems that disabling TLS1.1 & TLS1.2 in the registry will allow you to access the launcher and game without issue.

This thread will be moved to the 'Closed Concerns' subforum as the thread creator has found a resolution to their issue.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
