Is the new client broken?

I have been having this strange issue where the game client keep putting the game as Background and prevents me from interacting with the menu in Full Screen mode.

Is there a way to set the system to window mode or will I be forever stuck in Full Screen mode due to not being able to itneract with the game client's main menu?

Go to your start menu and search for "FFXIV.cfg" (Typically found in C:XXX/MyGames/Final Fantasy XIV, where the character data lies). Open it with a text editor. In the display settings, set ScreenMode to 0.

That sets it to windowed. Or at least, does for me. Also allows me to interact with the start menu again, so long as I'm not touching anything from that point onward.

I got it back to windows mode by using reset setting option but the game does not work still. I don't know what is happening since the game was working last weekend before the current game update.

Could be caused by the recent Nvidia graphic card update or the update itself.

My money is on the latter - I am having a similar issue with a Radeon card. I think it's just the hotfix jumbling something - it stopped from one day to the other with that being the only change. A bunch of other people already reported in in the Technical Issue forums as well, so... fingers crossed?

Ya.... it seems the newest update to Nvidia has royally messed up the graphic card system to the point clients are not functioning properly.

Until the people working on the Nvidia updates provide a fix to the current issue no one will be able to play any client based games if they have the recent update for their Nvidia GeForce graphic card.

Are you playing through steam? Disable the steam overlay and discord overlay if you use that as well.

I play the normal client but thank for the help. It seems the new Nvidia update was affecting the Discord client I had so I decided to shutdown the discord program. guess it is best not to touch Discord client until they fix the issue in the next update.

You can disable discord overlay in the settings. It is on by default for some reason.

Well that fixed it (for me anyway). Not sure why that became an issue overnight, but oh well >_>

Likely a discord update or something happened that did it.

I can't take credit for it though, I saw a post on reddit about it yesterday I think.
