I can't think of a single other MMO that gets away with shamelessly selling the previous years event items on the cash shop.

Are you specifically speaking of Subscription-based games? Nexon is pretty bad. Instead of letting you spend $15 to purchase a costume straight up they prey on gambling addiction with their gachapons.

To be fair those are freemium models, aka you don't pay a sub, where as this you have a paying sub that doesn't feed into the game much.

I am, actually. because unlike I'm assuming you're referring to maple and mabi, you not only have to buy the base game of FFXIV and pay a sub, I don't think they should throw nearly as much stuff on mogstation as they do. Not that I inherently have an issue with a cash shop, I spent quite a bit on there myself I was just pointing out theres no other sub based MMO where they can stuff previous seasonal rewards and nobody bats an eye, if this were to happen on other games you would see like meltdowns from the playerbase.

If I happen to miss an event, I gladly pay a few bucks to get those items later on. I bought the songbird stuff so fast when they put it up on Tuesday, I've been waiting months to get them! I don't mind supporting a game I love.

Honestly event items should be purchasable for gil or fate token during said event and why not for real money when the event is over for those who don't want to wait for the next year one.

Most games do not allow you to acquire event exclusives once the event has passed at all. While I would appreciate being able to buy event rewards I missed in game (at least a year later like 2017 items in the 2018 events) I don't mind tossing a little extra cash their way provided the pricing stays reasonable.

The only thing I don't like about the event is the umbrellas. Cause we still don't have that umbrella mount.

I'm personally going to stand at common flying landing points and just constantly use the blue one. It's very reminiscent of those guys who guide in the airplanes.
