New player, A bit disappointed :(

Hi i started the game yesterday and played for an hour or so and my impression was not as great , dont get me wrong i love it, looks awesome, well written music, great graphics and ideas but it seems a bit dead and slow to me, reasons is in town people seem just stand there not talking or moving to a point i almost confuse them with NPC's another thing is the quest, i seem to be running around back and forth for 30 mins or so but have had next to know fighting yet only twice, for the escort and the Levi quest, which isn't very exciting i must say, its just my first impression opinion, im not trying to slate the game or anything just a bit disappointed

im guessing there have been many posts but i thought i would have my say.
and i did hear about the 2.0 but that seems a bit to far away, are the planing to release little bits here and there to improve it before the

I know it says lvl 11 on profile but this use to be my older brothers account he played when the game came out , but only gave it to me when he was back from uni

The link shows the changes that are planned before 2.0. They are releasing quite a bit. However if you are a new player you are first introduced to the town and getting around the city. Then you're introduced to leves where you can fight moar. AFter that, it's just a grindfest. As you level up, more quests will become available. When you hit rank 25 you can join the grand company and get access to a chocobo, and an instanced dungeons.

So just level up a while, get into a Linkshell, and the game will gradually open up for you. ^^

Unfortunately everything you mentioned is what's wrong early in the game for XIV, and won't necessarily improve as you progress. Although you will find great experience parties and level much quicker starting around level 25, it will be a tough trek until you reach that point. Compounded by the fact that almost 90% of the player base has maxed all of their Disciple of War and Magic classes, you will have trouble trying to even get a party together.

I do still love XIV though and I hope you will stay with us, but if you leave it is totally understandable. I am willing to help you if you need it though, so just send me a /tell in game anytime. ^^

The game is a bit slow now and likely will be until version 2.0 is released and it launches for the ps3. For me it's fun to just see how much things are changing as we go.

As Hiir says find a linkshell. The game is more enjoyable with a solid LS you can go adventuring with.

I will echo the above posters and tell you to find a LS or 2. I have 2 very active ones and 2 more that are a bit quieter. Some nights I cannot keep up with the chatter.

Linkshells can make or break enjoyment of this game.

Go to your server's section in the "Worlds" area of the forums, you can throw up a post seeking an active social LS that helps people level, or you can look at the threads and see if you can find an LS that meets your requirements.

Also, shouting in Ul'Dah is another step you can take as that is the central hub of the game.

I can see how it would be hard starting out now, SE has no plans to draw in new players until 2.0 release, and most players have been active for the year this game has been running. But once you find an LS, I think it'll be a lot smoother and enjoyable for yourself.

    SE appreciates the feedback Herase.

It is in hopes that the feedback provided now and the 2.0 infrastructure will enable a more new user friendly experience, both in UI and game flow.

When if first started, maybe a week ago... all i had to do was find someone with the same interest as myself. Quickly after that i found out what linkshells were and they are a great way to find leveling parties/help. Keep your chin up but if you don't see yourself playing this game & being bored once in a while i suggest giving another game a try.
