Network problems when starting the game?

So I recently built someone a computer and after installing FF14 on it, there seems to be some problem when hitting start at the main menu. They're able to sign in on the launcher and hit play but getting to the screen and trying to continue to character select causes the network connection to stop working on that computer. Nothing else that requires an internet connection will work either until the game 2002's and closes.

Does anyone know what might be wrong? That's the only online game installed on there so far so it's hard to test any others but I'm not too sure what to do.

What do you mean by 'nothing else that requires an internet connection will work either'? Do you try to connect to the internet using another program?

The computer is using a wireless connection through an adapter at the moment, a simple usb card that plugs in to allow for it to connect to the router. By other things I meant any browser or program that uses internet will also stop working for a moment until the game gives a 2002 and closes. The only thing that was running in the background at the time was Google Chrome which wouldn't open any sites until after, giving connection error pages instead.

My first thought is that the wireless connection is being lost somewhere. Generally, a wired connection is a better option, especially for an MMO.

Try to connect with a wired Ethernet cable if possible.

Additionally, you can try resetting your router by turning it off and back on. Also make sure that no other programs are running when you try to launch the game.
