It really depends on how you define "advancement" for your character. For a lot of people, farming EX primals for mounts or specific dungeons/raids for glamour gear counts as advancing their character. Some people also consider saving for and camping housing plots as advancement, or ranking your chocobo in the Gold Saucer, or collecting vistas, or leveling all the jobs. I'm currently focused on ramping up the gear for my gathering/crafting classes to make new glamour and ilvl 350 gear. I also garden for mats to make expensive pieces for my house and change up the decor every so often, as well as experimenting with new glamour looks. Some people can do these things really fast, but for me it takes a while and I'm fine with that. Having those long term goals really keeps me engaged and playing.

I'm not a raider at all, though, so we probably have a completely different outlook, which is totally fine. Personally I love many of the things this game has to offer, but I also get why hardcore raiders unsub between patches. Maybe this is the best approach for you if none of the other activities seem interesting?
