Well you must admit it looks a lot better. Even if they raised the cap to 4B (I assume unsigned here as allowing a negative gil value would be silly), you'd just have people crowing about "why does the leading digit stop at 4? Why not 9? How will I indulge my Scrooge McDuck fantasy?"

The current gil cap is the largest number SE can create that is composed entirely out of 9s without extreme contrivance.

Considering I've already hashed out how I feel with the OP, I don't feel a need to reiterate. I honestly don't care if you see my recent comment as strawman. You and the OP have ignored valid points that multiple people and myself have made.

You can't possibly sit there and act as if this doesn't look like bragging. And to refute your "strawman" claim, whether she's bragging or not, it still does not change the fact that, once again, this is a forum, filled with people who will voice their opinions. Not once did anyone, including myself, "demand" for her to share what she was doing with her gil.

You have to understand that it's not only curiosity : it's a justification of work that will probably be requested. Put yourself in the devs shoes : increasing the cap requires to put a guy on it. When the team manager will ask why, PR will answer : "dunno, he just stores it without any use" ? Well if I'm the team manager I see it as a non backed request and advise you to spend the gils to make room so you can continue your gil-making activities.

This is the only only thing I will apologize for, as I could have, and should have made this point myself in the beginning. Karshan is exactly right. When you're posting this kind of thing on a forum, yes, curiosity will ensue, but why would the OP think that the devs wouldn't require a reason other than "My retainers can't hold anymore?" Because that is not a reason. That's like saying "my pantry can't hold any more food, I need more pantry space", yet your refrigerator, your basement freezer, and your cabinets are filled with food. Naturally anyone would be curious as to why you're hoarding so much food, and barely eating any of it. You cannot say that you're not getting your money's worth with your extra retainers if you know exactly what each of those extra retainers are capable of. Each retainer has a set amount of gil they can hold, and everyone is aware of that. If you've capped all of your retainers, you can't blame SE for that. Capping multiple retainers, your own gil pouch, and multiple alts obviously shows that even if you're spending money, you're not spending a fraction of what is needed to offset your income.

I just enjoy amassing large quantities, and I like to think someday there will be some kind of content where having a lot of gil will be rewarding.

This is the first reason she's given that had nothing to do with her retainers, and very likely what the devs would want to know in regards to considering her request. It still isn't a good reason, however. "I like money, and I want to have more" is not nearly justifiable enough to make a non-trivial change to the currency system. Especially a change that would barely benefit any players in the game. This conversation would have gone MUCH differently if the topic made more sense. Instead of "The gil cap needs to be increased", clearly what the issue for OP here is "We need more gil sinks". Which would have been a much more valid discussion.

I mean the energy some of these folks put into trying to trash this dude, I don't even have enough to read through let alone write, is telling about your character.

Anyhow, regardless of his intentions for amassing gil, there is a lot of gil in the system and I can't help but wonder how storing it will not eventually become a problem. The standard subscription allows for two retainers, so having more than 3 billion (not counting FC chest) will cost additional fees. While probably not currently a widespread problem, 3 billion is not an inconceivable amount for dedicated crafters to hit.

Inflation is real, hell I remember when I had 16 m and I thought that was an infinite amount, took a couple years off and came back to find out I was broke. To be honest though, its hard to imagine SE wanting to increase the gil cap with RMT and all, but they seem to be doing just fine without it so you never know.

Removing the gil cap is probably only gonna happen if many other players can earn the gil like the topic creator did. Until that happens, the chance of the cap being increased from the current amount is extremely low to none.

For that same reason I decided to stop commenting or answering to not draw more negative attention to the topic. My request for devs is serious, and I have no intention to brag, but you have to admit under this circumstances there is absolutely nothing I could say that won't qualify as bragging for some people here.
