erm greed, the rich always want more, if the raised the gill cap they would moan again once they reach that limit too. This is their enjoyment in the game there end game content.
Raising a 1billion gil cap even though a character can store 1bil more in a company chest and 1bil on each retainer? Why?
Definition of wealth is how much you have - this isnt just gil. I made my billions with MB manipulation. I buy massive hoards of saturated items, sit on them, and hopefully resell at higher demand. I imagine most with billions do the same thing.
Keep it invested. 1bil gil is worthless - its not making you money sitting in your bottom right screen. You must invest it to have value. With 999 sitem stacks and a saddlebag now? All the easier to invest - stockpile mats/materia for updates, even try buying discontinued items - elemental materia just made that list. A few billion is a great amount of money, but by no means are you maxed out on wealth.

You dont seem to understand. I have around 13b right now.Raising a 1billion gil cap even though a character can store 1bil more in a company chest and 1bil on each retainer? Why?

Regarding the rest of your post, no item in this game holds any gil value for too long. Not even houses. I know exactly how the system works, I could "invest" 3 billions of that in buying whatever you think is worth something from the MB, and I would still have no space to save the actual gil. Every piece of materia, allagan piece, minion and mount, expensive glamour included. Discontinued mats? sure, I already have tons of them saved just in case.

Technically, it would be a huge challenge (with some risks)
Firstly, change the code (server and all clients) to handle a much larger number (assuming it's passed around as a 32 bit integer, then the max is 2.14 billion), going beyond that means using a 64 bit integer.
Then the underlying database has to be taken offline, a new 64 bit variable created there, all the data migrated (which, depending on the database software, could mean a total dump and reload).
Then when that's been completed, change the code to load and store it from the server software, pass it to the client from that now 64 bit server variable and finally spin everything back up again.
So you're talking about every character and every retainer on every server needing data migrated from one variable(or column in RDBMS terms) to another one, with the risk that a coding slip-up or 'hiccup' would result in overflow setting a sign bit somewhere and turning someone's gill into a negative few billion.

Which is why any good programmer, IT person would have a backup of the known good version. So you're talking about every character and every retainer on every server needing data migrated from one variable(or column in RDBMS terms) to another one, with the risk that a coding slip-up or 'hiccup' would result in overflow setting a sign bit somewhere and turning someone's gill into a negative few billion.
I think that's completely out of the discussion. People play this game for a ton of different reasons, and the game keeps adapting and permanently making quality of life adjustment for all kind of players, not just the majority.

So........ you're considering yourself a minority because you've got too much gil? Making rich people have the ability to be more rich doesn't seem like a "quality of life" adjustment. But what happens next? You make more money and then what? You've got more than enough money for anything, so what would be the point in even having more of it? If you've reached the gil cap, that already shows that you've made more money than you know what to do with, so why would having the ability to make more gil appease you?
Not to mention your reply to Shahi's post. How is it out of the discussion???? What Shahi said was a completely valid point, and very much IN the discussion.
What is your reason then? If you're playing FFXIV as a money-making tycoon, then congrats, you've won. I can't possibly see how constantly stacking up on gil -and doing nothing else- is enjoyable. To be quite honest, it sounds like you're bored.
I'm not trying to attack you or anything, I'm just curious, as I honestly don't understand the logic behind this request.

This topic is not about what I choose to do with my gil or not. My particular enjoyment of money making activities concerns only me and the reasons why I do it or enjoy it contributes nothing to the discussion. I could do it just because I want, and that would a perfectly valid reason. Elamys, for example, gave a good reason why is a bad idea to increase the gil cap.
For me, at least, the current gil cap unables me from using a feature I'm paying real money for (7 extra retainers), because I cannot use them to sell stuff ingame (being capped on gil makes all gil from new sells disappear), so its not just a trivial request like you are thinking.

What you choose to do with your gil is your business, but you can't be surprised about people being curious about your intentions when you literally make a topic about reaching the maximum amount of currency, and you're still wanting to make more. In this situation, you can't simply say "I have max money, I want more, and the reason why is none of your business". If you feel that way, then you shouldn't have posted on the forum. Literally any argument you make about why the gil cap should be increased will always come back to the very valid question: "What are you doing with the gil that you need more than the maximum?"
"My retainers can't hold any more" ..... Why are you still collecting it then?
"I'm paying for a feature that I can't use" ..... If you're capped on gil, and you know this cap won't be lifted anytime soon, why are you still paying real money for extra retainers? Seven of them?????
"I cannot use them to sell stuff in-game" ..... Why are you still trying to sell things if you know it wont retain any more currency???
None of this makes any sense. When people post on a forum about something they'd like to see changed in game, 9/10 they're doing it to gain supporting opinions and perspectives as to why a particular issue should be changed. This is done in an effort to (hopefully) try and get the developers to see why this issue is in need of a change. Much like how the MSQ roulette cutscene issue was looked at. Coming here with an attitude of "I want more money and you don't need to know why" is not persuasive or helpful to your cause at all, and you've yet to give a good reason as to why the cap needs to be increased.
