Can't find a right class for me

I feel like I should weigh in, because I often feel the same way. This is how I cope.

I choose a TYPE, not a class. Most of the gear in this game is shared between a few classes. monk and Samurai, for example.

Mages offer good diversity. I play BLM on nights where I want to be top of the damage, I play SMN on days where I don't feel like trying very hard, and I play RDM whenever my static really needs the utility. Part of this games beauty is that there really is no reason to play JUST ONE class. Play several. Was this useful advice? I dunno. I went through what you are going through once upon a time before it hit me: I can just claim 'Mage' as my main and shuffle between the three as the whim arises. While the 3 casters don't share stat priority, I just keep a few heavy spell speed pieces on me for when I need to play blm. hehe
