Make no mistake. I'm not you alliances. I'm here cause I just do what I felt is right thing to do.
You would be correct. Wipes are more likely to occur due to mechanic mess ups than anything else. The only spots where a death can make things dicey are add phase and early into Golden. At least DPS check wise.
Only Golden is tight. Don't know how it's rolling with the sync now.
You probably not wanna run ultimate with ilvl sync because materia slots not work anymore. Like you can not have extra 125 vitality for dps or tank lose over 100 strength stat etc. 340 item level bis that was before is still most likely bis for ultimate.
You'd run with left side sync'd (secondary stats gets sync'd to up to their gear's caps and would gain some main stats) and right side 340 for Vit.
Actually I was referring to golden too, I remember hearing that you can have like 1 death from each role in specific moments of the fight and still make it dps wise
I think it was 1 healer at the start 1 tank at middle and 1 dps near end and you can still win
I don't mean to trivialize the OPs statement (and I don't want to be a prick with the lul/git god comments but...
Seriously, use the dummy. Do your rotation on the dummy until you can do it with your eyes closed (including positionals), and until you can clear the dummy with plenty of time remaining on the clock. Do this with food/potions/whatever buffs you can. When you get it down to that point, do it 5 times in a row. After that point, analyze the fight and decide when the optimal times are to stick to/break from the oGCD weaves etc. When you do that, you will realize that the enrage timers are not that tight.
Back in O1s first time we cleared it, I had to step off of DRG and go to RDM because RDM is way simpler to use and I didn't have the timing on DRG down on that fight. Any class can clear. You need to know the rotation, and the fight and most importantly how the class you are playing fits with others.

SE also balances jobs, depending on the size of the player base..
if a player base shrinks too much, they will get more attention / buffs...., if theyre already too big, they wont get buffed much (ofc there are exceptions, when things are a bit broken)
...
buffs matter too much:
see brds having trouble too keeo up the minimum dps with no drg in the party..., if you have a brd/mch, you need a drg...., and many comps need /want a brd/mch (mp, hear healers say manashift aitn enough), even if piercing is only 5%
slashing debuff is also a must, need a nin, war or sam
unless you have a mnk, which is OP in standard comps (2x melee, 1x ranged and 1x caster), and way OP with 3x melee (blm in standard comps can barely keep up with mnk, and bring no utility, ... blm is doing good dps, but still have not been allowed in some pfs, unlike mnk, unless the pf is absolutely meta focuded)
sam need a buff, casters need more buffs (mnk and rdm should just buff them too), drk could use more love and rdm should have a slight buff, mnk a slight nerf (like smn got)

There are many variations of party compositions that have succeeded. You don't need to follow a meta (whether it's prog meta or speed meta).
If you're encountering a tight dps enrage, it probably has to do with people in your party (which could even include you, always make sure to consider the possibility it might be you) not playing properly (dying too many times to mechs, not doing rotations properly, not thinking about when to best use raid-wide boosts, having low uptime, a healer having 60+% overheal while having little dps, etc..)
And I say this as a fellow player in a party that hits enrage for O5S and O6S and I can see many areas where we need to improve (thanks fflogsand people who upload full runs in a variety of POV on youtube). My party just needs to get better, so does yours.
Raise to the challenge and forget about meta. You can do it.

Straight from Yoshi in the Live Letter. Notice in the second paragraph he clearly states what he thinks about current jobs and the balancing.
Q: After the recent changes, black mage became much smoother to play!
Some party support abilities would complete the adjustment, are there any plans to add any or make adjustments to do this?
A: We believe everyone is very focused on their main job right now. However, we're making sure that each job feels different to play, so we do not have any plans to add any new support abilities to black mage in the 4.x series. As with samurai, we believe jobs with high DPS are supporting their party by dealing high damage.
Also, there seems to be a trend where players believe they are at a disadvantage when there is a certain job in the raid. There won't be a major advantage or disadvantage no matter what setup you have. This type of trend gives a negative impression to specific jobs. We would appreciate if the community would stop being swayed by this trend.
