I don't think its so much to ask for the "additional content" we were promised at the expense of the dungeon lost to appeal to the majority of the player base rather than small niche segments of the community.
People voicing their concerns isn't a negative.
This feeling is normal for a time-consuming game (for me it's similar to mobile game with stamina).
It's important to change games, to try something new, and put his habits aside sometimes.
New experiences, it's always good to take.
@OP: I can understand where you are coming from. Right now I have lots to do because I gave me the goal of crafting at least every recipe at least once (which includes all the housing items) so just getting this done will take a huge amount of time. (And is great to catch up to some Youtube lets plays). But honestly if I did not have that I would feel the same, at least for fighting content. Savage is nothing for me and I just cant grind up all the other jobs..heck I barely even look at the stones anymore (why bother if I still overgear most of the new stuff in the next patch anyway) and the raids are just not that interesting, especially Omega. I just dont have much FF nostalgy so these fights feel forced and kinda boring, especially the last one. But even if I would do that we are restricted to one drop per week so its not like I could run these things a lot too.
Perform or the new gold saucer glamour mini games are not that interesting too. One is not that much of a content at all and the other is restricted to once per week with a few tries. Maybe Eureka will bring back the feeling of taking part in the fighting content but right now even that cant really hype me up much. Other than that I kinda feel like we lost a dungeon for nothing. PVP or Ultimate are nice for those that like it but its probably not something for the majority of the player base.
Like you I have houses thus I cant take a bigger break so I kinda just give myself bigger goals which I can do slowly..but FF14 does not feel that much fun like it did all the time before...maybe because I get the feeling that we get more and more cash shop things (the carbuncle mounts still hit me the bad way..) and less longliving content ingame..
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Even number patches are always underwhelming unless your a raider, we were supposed to already have the relic grind to keep us occupied by now at least
A little while back my FC Co-GM burned out too. What fixed it for him was just to take a break. Dude dove headfirst into Dark Souls 1 and 3, Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, and a bunch of other junk he just wanted to do. Now he's back and plays enough to make a sub worth it again, but without forsaking other things. At the end of the day, even Yoshi P has said this is a game to play alongside other games, and he's right. The best way to keep this game good is to play other stuff too and keep a well-rounded selection of stuff. I tend to enjoy failing miserably in Street Fighter 5 or settlement building in Fallout 4, or Stardew Valley, or whatever else, you get the idea. A nice break is some times the best thing in this situation, just take it, you'll be glad you did. ^_^
I started Fishing.
Then I took a break, because I know that when I start to fish in a game, it's time to take a break.
I get why people are saying 'take a break' and to some extent I agree. That said, content drought impacts FCs a lot in regard to player retention.
I'm afraid that Eureka has been delayed so long that expectations will be too high. Many are holding out hope that it will be totally awesome and will keep them in the game, if it isn't, I expect a mass drop in subs.
I've cut back how much I play in recent months, due to new life circumstances and because I was really feeling burnt out. I still log in at least once a week, but I try not to feel anxious or bummed if I can't cap for the week. I used to be a raider, now I'm more casual, and I'm kind of enjoying the game more for it in some ways. The only thing that really bugs me is the lack of things to DO if you want to do instanced PvE. This might sound strange and a little stupid, but please bear with me...
I like the side-stuff in the game. There are lots of little diversions like the Canals, crafting/gathering, beast tribes, sidequests, and so on. But the real reason I play the game is the main PvE stuff- dungeons, 24-man raids, etc. And there's just not enough of that. I want a moderately challenging experience that won't get stale if I run it once every few weeks or so. The best I've seen are certain 24 man raids where people still wipe due to domino effects (Rabanastre, Dun Scaith, Mhach, sometimes WoD). But they come out rarely since they're huge projects. And the challenge is dulled by the time people get enough gear to simply ignore mechanics. (LotA is a TRAVESTY in this day and age when I remember what it used to be like.) The dungeons are meant to be completed by everyone, so once you do it once you've got it. Most of them require you have AFK or uniquely terrible tanks/healers to fail. I like doing the roulettes with lots of options since sometimes I'll get a dungeon I haven't been through in a while but they aren't very engaging. Now that I don't raid, I also have less content to do and less reasons to pay a sub. If SE had greater quantities of relevant "midcore" content, I would probably feel better about what I can do in the game with my limited time. If there's a lack of things I want to do when when I only log in once or twice a week, then...
I basically have two things I'm waiting for that will decide things for me: Eureka, and 5.0. If Eureka is what YoshiP has been telling us it is, I will be very happy. ESPECIALLY if it doesn't get outdated or replaced by the next patch... this game sorely needs some persistent content IMO. 5.0 because if it looks like more of the same I've seen since 2.0, I will probably say good bye. No amount of new shiny will keep me invested if it's just small variations on what I've been doing for four years now. It's not to say the game sucks (it certainly doesn't!) but it's just having trouble keeping me engaged with the perpetual treadmill and recycling of content.

I can agree with this. It has been delayed so many times now and been hyped up so much I honestly doubt it can meet expectations. Guess we find out in a few weeks. (Unless delayed again)
