I'm not sure I can do this again.

Oh boy! 4.2! Another round of raids and dungeons, and adventures in already freed Doma! yay...Doma...

Just got to go to Rhalgar's reach and talk to the dude!...or Lyse, be honest you didn't check, just run up there!

Maybe I can get started on my raids...oh looks like my ilvl is too low, spent too many days not capping my seals and doing redone fights. Oh well, that's on me! just work twice as hard today! You can do it!...It'll be fun!

Yep...4.2! You're here, time to have fun! Just talk to that npc marked with the meteor thing!....go on! Fuuun!

I'm not sure I want to play anymore. This feels different from the other times and reminds me of the day I decided to leave ffxi, when I was staring at Al Zhabi, unwilling to do another thing. I am clearly tired of the grind, the characters, and the content. I wish I could take such a long break that I don't have to return from but I'm a ls/fc officer and I have a house. Throw friends that play the game into the mix, and I'm just not sure what to do, what it says about me wanting to leave everything behind me.

You are far from alone in feeling this way. Most of the people I speak with in game are sick of the broken gear treadmill we keep getting. Six months between item level increases, a heavy focus on raid content, which most casuals don't really care for and raiders find too easy. What else did we get content wise during 4.x?..... PvP modes/updates. SB sure has been fun /sarcasm.

I've had similar feelings recently though it isn't so much with the content's predictable rotation. I absolutely love the content they release (Story, Raids, Trials, Experimentation) I just wish it lasted longer. I read the patch notes, create a "To Do List" on a spreadsheet, and thoroughly and efficiently complete new patch content. However, three days after patch day I realize I'm already completely done and have only repeatable "Weeklies" to look forward to. It also doesn't help that this sense of boredom seems to be gently lingering around everyone I talk to.

I find the only reason I subscribe these days is so I don't lose my house or my static. It's the second time in four years where I haven't logged in everyday and it'd be nice to have a reason to besides "Capping Tomes." It's the complete opposite of burnout. "Give me more!"

It's like, unless you're doing savage content, you have no real reason to stay aside from tomes...which will change in another six months anyway...

I'd say if you're not having fun, just take the damn break >_>

Get someone to take over your place in the LS/FC thing, grab an apartment so you can keep the housing storeroom contents indefinitely in case you ever want to come back after the house got demolished, tell your friends you're burned out on the game and need a break and then go. Discord doesn't require a FFXIV subscription, so you can keep in touch and the bad blood should be limited if you don't just up and vanish.

The game isn't likely to change anytime soon, only your view on it might.

Take breaks, indulge in /gpose goodness, do lost canal maps, try some furnishing, level a crafter, level a gatherer, try PotD solo, do low level quests as jobs you haven't leveled, join random farms of fights you've done but haven't got a mount, do it just for the fun of it! I don't say all that in a way to minimize the burn out you feel, I just list things that helped me continue to enjoy the game despite being in similar place as you and maybe it could help you too.

Personally, I can't stand the tome grind anymore, nor I have nerves to grind sigmascape and stay at the mercy of rng but I'm thankful we have several alternatives to gain ilvls and tome cap is removed shortly before a patch so catching up isn't too bad. I used to raid and I used to stress having optimal gear but now I'm enjoying the filthy casual life and the game feels less of a chore. I'm yet to get 400 of whatever is the new tome and patch is like 3 weeks in or something.

I'm not sure what the complaint is about? If you're burnt out, then the only answer is a break. The content is exactly what was promised/expected since HW established the pattern. The only difference so far is that the relic weapon/eureka is a few months delayed. I see tons of people in my FC that don't bother with the raids and still have plenty to do, so Idk. Play some Bayonetta or something...

You're not the only one OP. My boyfriend and I speak about this fairly frequently since the end of 3.0.

We are still here because there is nothing much else to see out there in the way of /compelling/ MMORPGs. I even tried to give WoW a fair shot for his sake ( he's a huge fan ), but I just couldn't get past the lack of story driven game play early on in the game ( very sandbox feeling, for sure has its own charm just not for me ). SE has spoiled me with the story driven game play.

How I feel about content in the game as a casual player: the dev team only visits me every few months with entertaining content like a divorced parent that moved out of state. They take me to that theme park but I can only go on the rollercoaster so many times before im done and bored.

At the root, this is a great game but it does indeed have flaws like anything else.

I agree. I'm burning out again too. The last time this happened, I decided to shake things up a bit - I created an alt with a different gender, different race, and went on a different data centre from a different part of the world. I started on the job I had hated the most on my main - BLM. I really enjoyed it. I then took up DoL and DoH jobs - something I also hated on my main. I really enjoyed them too. After a while I went back to my main, but now I'm burning out again. Turns out I was just delaying the inevitable. The whole thing is so mind-numbingly repetitive. I'm now bored, and lonely, because I'm UK player on a UK server that plays late night so there's infrequently anyone to talk to or do stuff with. I don't enjoy the company of the hostile people you get in PF to do savage content, and can't find a static that does my hours of play. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind solo, but there's just nothing new to do. There's not even anything old to do, since no one does old content anymore, and if they do it's unsynced and not even remotely challenging.

Everything's just so predictable and monotonous these days. I wish I could just change servers to better hours, or maybe unsub, but I don't want to lose my Shirogane house I worked so hard to get And because I'm still subbing, I don't want to waste my money by not playing. I'm starting to feel like the Ouroboros snake. I'm actually hoping one day I'll wake up and think, 'f*** the house' and just go.
