PS4 Down button stopped working in duties

I'm playing on the PS4. My controller works fine in any other game. But when I'm inside a duty in FFXIV, maybe 90% of the time the Down button does nothing when I press it.
It was working fine until a day or so ago. It also seems to work fine outside of duties.
It doesn't even matter if there's a lot going on, or if I'm currently fighting or just standing around.
This is really bizarre, and I have no idea what the cause could be.

I don't have another controller to test. I think it started happening after the last maintenance.

Is this controller connected wirelessly, or with a USB cable?

I've tried it both wireless and plugged in.
Interestingly, it doesn't just seem to be duties causing it.
I headed into my FC housing, and it stopped working there. I ported to Limsa Lominsa, and after maybe 10-20 seconds it started working again. I went back to my FC house (Shirogana), and it was working maybe 50% of the time. I stepped into my private room, and it began working 100% again. I stepped back out into the FC house, and it continued working.
Went into a duty, and bam, 100% failure rate. I think it was working maybe 80% of the time at first, but after a couple minutes inside the duty it stops all together.
Finished the duty, back in FC housing, and it still would not work. Went into my private quarters, and after 10-20 seconds it started working again.
Afterward I went to Limsa Lominsa, and noticed after a bit that it stopped working again. I think it was after I entered the Squadron Barracks.
Here's where it gets even more weird; it wasn't going away this time, and I noticed it wasn't working even if I minimized the game and went into the console menu. I opened the game back up, went to the private quarters of my FC housing, and slowly over the span of about a minute it started working again with a gradually increase rate of success. After it was back to maybe 80-90%% I once again minimized the game, and it was again working inside the console menu as well with a similar rate of success.
This rate of success (less than 100%) actually continued even after closing the game down completely. After restarting the PS4, it stopped working all together.
Put PS4 into rest mode, woke back up, button was now working 100%. Opened FFXIV back up, logged in, headed to Squadron Barracks, still working 100%. Tried entering a Command Mission in lieu of a duty, still working 100%. Quit out of Command Mission, and it instantly went to 100% failure of button again.
Tried putting the PS4 into rest then waking twice while FFXIV was still running, and it fixed nothing. Closed down FFXIV, and the button started working again right after.
No other games seem to trigger this.
This problem is absolutely being caused by the game, but is not restricted to affecting only the game.

Is this being looked into? I understand it's a very strange and complicated problem, but it's completely game-breaking.

Thank you for the update Gr1mwolf.

There is a test I want to try on your controller. The PS4 has the ability to remap the controller buttons. Can you try to remap that Down button to something else? Like switch it with the Up button? Just to see if the Down button still has this issue, or if the switched button shows the same symptoms.

I would also suggest a reinstallation of the game (make sure to delete the file in the Application Save Data as well). See if the issue persists.
