    What are "DPS requirements"?

I have seen this phrase used in talking about dungeons, but a search on google for the phrase brings up nothing. What does this mean? Are there certain dungeons where you automatically die if you don't do enough damage, like the demon wall in the older games?

There are indeed things like that in this game. Many of them in fact.

Commonly you'll just take damage if you don't kill something in time but in the higher end stuff it will wipe your entire party

In extreme trials and savage raids, there are things like enrage timers where you need a certain amount of rDPS to successfully clear the fight. For example, Sigmascape Savage V3.0 (O7S) requires ~29,500 rDPS to clear the enrage. Some 24-mans also have enrages, but they’re more lenient than Extremes/Savage/Ultimate.

Dungeons generally don’t have these sort of enrages, or if they do, they’re extremely lenient.

Wasn't always this way. Anyone remember when Haukke Manor Hard was first released?

But these days, yes, dungeons typically don't have an enrage.

While I came in during Heavensward, I do recall actually wiping to the final boss in Haukke Manor HM. I also remember hearing about how the original level 50 expert dungeons were actually quite difficult. Kind of wish they’d go back to that.

I do, I was still new to tanking and trying to gear up and half the time I tried that dungeon it was a vote abadon at the final boss it seemed. Really made me reconsider being a tank during that time, though I'll be honest in not remembering whether it was really me being the problem.

The closest I think we have to any enrage and thus DPS requirements in recent dungeons is Zenos, though its much more lenient compared to Haukke. Yet to see any group fail it. Course for all I know its just a hard hitting attack even if it maxes out since I've never seen it do such.

    Remember pre-nerf Demon Wall?

The trenches full of corpses do.

...I miss it. It and original Pharos Sirius, and a few others from around that era.

    Translating a little:

    DPS = Damage you do.

rDPS = Damage your group do.

Wipe = Everyone on your party is dead. A.K.A. the boss used your party to mop the floor.

Enrage = A move that is 100% sure that will kill your party. It is like Chuck Norris doing Roundhouse Kick on your party. You lose.

Enrage Timer = If your party don't kill the boss before this timer runs out, you guys will get hit by enrage. A.K.A. how much time you guys have before the boss stops playing and starts mopping the floor with you guys' bodies.

DPS requirements = Amount of damage your group must do to not get hit by enrage.

As another note, the game also gives you a way to determine if you can (theoretically) generate the necessary DPS needed to complete most endgame trials/raids in the form of Stone Sky Sea. These are first unlocked in a lv. 60 quest in Idyllshire after you finish the 2.0 content, and then the current endgame content is unlocked in Rhalgr's Reach at lv. 70. Essentially, SSS will allow you to select the battle you wish to practice on, and then it will send you to an instanced area while generating a special practice dummy. This dummy will have a certain amount of HP based on the content and your current job, and you will generally have only a few minutes to bring down the dummy to 0 HP. If you can kill it in time, you should be in good shape to try that content, and if not you can work from there to determine whether your weaknesses fall on gear, rotation, etc.
