Why do you lock up your houses?

This isn't attacking anyone, I'm just curious as to why people choose to lock their houses.

I personally love it when people check my place out. The only reasons I can think of for locking up a place is that you aren't done decorating it, or maybe that you had to deal with particularily stubborn/feisty players who did inappropriate things in your home.

So I'm asking, why do people choose to lock up their homes?

The only reason I'll ever lock my places up is because I'm not done decorating and I'd be embarrassed to let people see the unfinished messes. Otherwise everyone is always welcome.

Personally, I leave my house locked (it's locked by default) when I'm not done decorating it yet. You have no idea how much it pained me to have an unfinished FC house with people coming in and out of it after 4.1 launch, and we moved our FC house. It hurt. A lot. I cringed every time someone else was in the house. (It was great motivation to finish it quickly.)

I've known people who just didn't want to share their house with others, so they kept it locked. I've known others who wanted to be feisty themselves and not have people walk in on it, so feisty partners were tenants at the home so they could still come and go as they wanted, just not the rest of the world. Some of the 18+ RP FCs on my server lock their homes when they're not "open for business". I supposed if someone had their house set up as a shop, bar, inn, etc. it would make sense to lock it when the shop was closed.

This times like a million. I hate people seeing the mess that is me trying to figure out how I want things to look. Constantly moving stuff around, reworking my design plan. Oh, it's so awful sometimes!

side note: this text limit is killing me!!!!

I've only ever locked my house when I'm online and feeling particularly antisocial and just want to be left alone, lol

    I only lock my house while decorating..or rping with friends, because ya know, you usually don't want random catboys sitting on your table while you rp. ;-;

For the simple fact i dont want you or anyone else to go inside. I hate RP and i would flip out to see people doing this crap in my house, regardless of what type of RP. This is just one example, but not the only one. Frankly i would like to lock out entire plot if i could so only people i personally approved can enter.

If one day SE move their a**es and bring housing UI to 21st century then i would immediately set 100 people w/o house on the list so they can use (almost) all bonuses in the house (e.g. crafting bonuses), in mean time i dont see any point to watch some strangers running around.

I get you not liking people RP'ing in your house, I'd hate it too.

But hate RP? Why? It's literally just glamourized creative writing. Contrary to popular belief, most of our RP doesn't revolve around erotica.

Reasons to hate RP? (from someone who had his house invaded by RP)

The conversations in /s instead of /t filling up chat logs
Emote spam, so so so much emote spam, after the 50th ranger pose... (personally I blist /s talkers and emote spammers immediately)

and in dungeons you have the ppl who want to stop and read everything or ...the must frustrating... walk. And those who refuse to do /echo and everything has dialog, either in /p /s or /sh. Its so unnecessary, esp since we cannot blist you in a dungeon.

    ...just to name a few

if you want to rp its fine, but some ppl are so obnoxious about it that it generates a lot of hate from the rest of us

Hm... Most RP'ers I know turn off the emote chatlog, so they can emote without having something posted on chat. I get the /say thing though, but again, you're in Sargatanas. IF you're an RP'er in Balmung you kinda get used to seeing it and most encourage it, as it gives the game a more "open world" feel.

I do see non-RPers and RPers read in dungones, but it's generally done in new content. My boyfriend and I always finish the dungeon and then go back to read on stuff we missed.

Now, walking in dungeons you DF'd sounds very selfish. I've never encountered someone doing that, and I'm so sorry you have. If you ever go to a dungeon in-character you do it with a group of RP'ers and not via dutyfinder, it's common sense.

Because if you need virtual pixels to RP then you should seek professional help. Take your wife, gf, bf, husband... whoever you want and RP in real life. Perfectly fine and nothing wrong with that. Actually it could "spice" things out of the ordinary what is great. But in the game? Just doesnt make sense. If you want to do publicly then take your RL partner and do it in front of bunch of people... if you really like in this way. The fact is most of virtual RP are RL spineless people who probably blush just hearing word "s*x" and take the anonymity of the internet to fulfill something they would never dare to do in RL.
