For my part i wonder at what point the ranting has only been delayed. Sure there seems to be a lot of free houses, which make people says that the offer has finally meet the demand, but it seems some of them simply can not be bought at all because of the random demolition timer still going on. That was the case of the first two i tried to buy. People were ranting today in my linkshells on how they lost 4 hours waiting for the timer to stop only to have their plot of choice snatched by someone else, then they were moving on to another plot and beginning to wait again, etc. And by doing that they were not thinking of ranting in the forums, not when a single moment's innatention could mean another spot taken from them.
So before saying too fast that this patch is successful i think we might need more datas, like waiting to all the demolition timer to stop, all the spots to be bought, and then see how many people will still be without a house and what their reaction will be.
There will always be players without houses, simply because there isn’t enough supply to meet the demand. The smallest JP server is still a little over 6,500 active players, and there are only 4,320 houses per server. Compare that to Balmung, which LuckyBancho put at ~23,000 active players, that’s only enough houses for 18.8% of Balmung, but 66.5% of the smallest JP server (which I believe was either Aegis or Valefor at the time of Lucky’s last census). The numbers aren’t for-sures since the census is unofficial, and it doesn’t account for things like those that had multiple houses before the 4.2 restrictions were in place, how many of those active characters are alts, how many can even buy a house, etc., but just to give you an idea.
I feel like I should also specify here—there aren’t enough larges/mediums for people on the more populated servers. People don’t want to settle for smalls or for houses in...less desirable districts...but a house is a house. They can complain there’s no plots, but when the Goblet is setting mostly empty because people won’t move there out of stubbornness (I guess), that’s not the fault of the system. That’s the fault of people thinking they’re better than the smaller plots or the housing districts they don’t like or deem “worthy”.
But the fact that there were still devalued plots left on Cactuar—which has the 3rd highest population according to unofficial censes of around ~17,000—tells me that it’s still pretty successful. Hours later and there are still plots, versus 4.1 where everything was gone within 15 minutes, and a bunch of players got lobby errors and 90k’s just trying to get into the game because the servers couldn’t handle the strain of everyone loading into Kugane/Shirogane at once. Like someone said earlier in the thread, it’s kind of like 3.3, which was very successful except on the highly populated servers where there was an extremely noticeable shortage, and extremely vocal complaints about it.
There will always be outlier servers like Balmung that will never have enough houses to satisfy their populations, but if there are only complaints from 1 or 2 servers out of the 50+ this game has, I would consider it largely a success. I think 4.2 Housing was very successful, and I’m glad for everyone that got a house during it. The relocation timer thing is annoying, and losing a house due to not clicking at just the right moment when it expires sucks; I won’t deny that. But it was put in to try and curb at least the personal house flippers. It hasn’t stopped the FC sellers/flippers, sadly, or those who say they will relinquish plots for relocation purchases, but there will always be those who find loopholes in any system, however perfect or imperfect.

Ty for adding so much details.
About the Goblet i did check the free spots on Shiva some time ago :
- Shirogane : all is gone ;
- Lavender beds : only one small left ;
- The Mist : 4 small left ;
- The Goblet : 52 small houses left !
I didn't type the Goblet's number incorrectly, i really mean 50+2, or 31+21. I did know it wasn't popular, but i wasn't expecting such a difference XD
I would say yes and no, some servers it was fine but on the popular / legacy /high pop it was a failure again, as I said in another forum post there is nothing SE can do to remedy this it is and always will be a problem same reason why we have inventory issues for Omni crafters and glamour system which is a mess. As much as I also wanted a house the time I came back from work 17:00 it was all gone. Such is the way of things and I can guarantee you that next time will be the same thing, there are too many players to housing ratio that is not even including the scum flippers etc.
There is still LOADS of houses left on Ragnarok. I think what you are trying to say is there is none left in the ward you want, size or desired plot.I would say yes and no, some servers it was fine but on the popular / legacy /high pop it was a failure again, as I said in another forum post there is nothing SE can do to remedy this it is and always will be a problem same reason why we have inventory issues for Omni crafters and glamour system which is a mess. This is why I think at this point they need to look into upgrading the apartments into becoming bigger and adding the false patios they were talking about to allow gardening and a few outdoor furnitures. The server can't handle enough wards to support everyone that wants one on those larger servers and at the very least a larger apartment with patio feature could still give people more room to furnish then the walk in closet they currently have plus the only real feature they seem to be missing out on. Sure you can't get everything but at this point they've still reached a larger player base being satisfied and it's a good time to look at their apartments now.
Looked this morning at 5:00am before heading off to work, did not see anything in mist, gridana or shiru. goblet did not check fully only a few or I would have been late. I also think goblet is worst designed area, but you need to consider do you want to invest in something that you cherish or do you just do it just because of its there.
