    Dungeon annoyance!

I know I'm going to get quite a bit of backlash for what I am about to discuss, but I feel it needs to be addressed.
Why aren't healers healing anymore? I'm going to use an example from last night but this is by no means the only time I've come across this, in fact it seems to now be the norm which is infuriating. I know there are people who do do the job properly but I just semed to come across this all the time yesterday.
My friend and I were doing a run of sohm al for exp purposes. I have never seen people die so often. The healer was far too busy being a dps to heal the tank or anybody else and also neglected to reapply protect once resurrected. I found myself having to constantly supplement the healing with my pitiful physick spell. I tried to address this with the healer but was met with pathetic excuses about the tank not using his abilities to keep himself healed (he's a dark knight). Is it just me that is seeing this? Please tell me it's not!

I've kinda noticed this myself. This is due to the expectation that Healers and Tanks as well as doing there respective they add to the DPS as well. Some healers can't seem to balance this correctly (or they are really DPS wanting to queue in quicker).

I tend to play RDM while doing dungoens and I must drive healers nuts, since if I take damage I tend to top up my HP using Vircure on myself only. The times I don't do this are normally the times I die. So you could say at the moment I have very little trust in healers at the moment.

It is annoying i understand they want to DPS i know that but when you heath is low HEAL its you job don't neglect that.
It seems they are forgetting the basic principal of the class like putting protect on after die.... using Rise when you die, healing when your low on health, its getting to the point where people are getting annoyed with healers in general and it becoming toxic..
all we are asking use the skills you are given ... that comment of "the tank not using his abilities to keep himself healed" is that not the job of the healer to keep the tank alive
if they die you die ...you have skills aswell.....

Mayhap this will provide insight into why healers are spending SO much time dpsing. As for Protect - I apply it at the start then swap it for useful role skill assuming that toons won't die. Which means I don't have it mid-fight. You'll get Protected again after the pull. And yeah - I assumed something.

Was the tank undergeared? Was he pulling too much trash? Was the trash being killed fast enough by the dps/using aoes? Was he using cooldowns which it seems like he wasn't. No excuse for a healer they just need to readjust and heal more when they get those sorts of parties but a tank dying along with the rest of the party isn't solely on the healer. Obviously if he wasn't healing at all and tunnel visioned his stone spells ya that's on him. And most healers tend to forget about protect after the beginning with some even macroing it off there hotbar for a more useful role skill.

Just sounds like you had a bad healer. A dps'ing healer needs to stop to heal. Failure to do so = bad healer.

As to why you had a bad healer, could be lots of reasons. Some people just don't care, some get tunnel vision, others are dps/tanks who are rolling a healer and still not used to having to check people's health bars and estimating how long they have left to heal vs their actual heal cast time.

I dps all the time as my healers, but not to the point of ignoring a dying party member.

I would however also wonder how quickly the health went down. If let's say the healer was dps'ing while everyone was at 80+% health, and then someone died because they got hit back to back by 2 avoidable attacks within just a few seconds, that's not on the healer.

That happened to me yesterday where everyone was topped off and suddenly the bard was dead because of being hit by 2 separate aoes in quick succession in Stone Vigil. Can't work miracles.

Personally, I haven’t seen a huge influx of healers that refuse to actively heal in favor of DPSing in dungeons, though I do know some healers that personally hate to heal (why they are playing a healer then is beyond me, but that’s beside the point). I’ve run into healers that more often don’t heal OR DPS, or that overheal targets unnecessarily. Tank drops to 98% health? Medica II! Tank is the only one who even takes damage? Medica II! I actually had a WHM in my leveling roulette (The Vault) that would heal EVERYTHING with Medica II. The tank’s health was sub 30% most pulls, and the healer wasn’t DPSing that much outside of 1 or 2 Holys. They just healed exclusively with Medica II.

There are many things to consider with the healer you got. What was the tank’s gear? Were they undergeared and doing large pulls? Leveling dungeons hit far harder than level 50/60/70 dungeons. DRK also is not the greatest with defensive cooldowns, especially synced down, since it’s most reliable CD is The Blackest Night, which is locked at level 70. At Sohm Al, they only have Rampart every 90 seconds, and Shadow Wall every 180 seconds. Was the healer themselves undergeared? What spells were they using to heal? Were the DPS getting hit by avoidable AOEs?

I’ve been accused of not healing DPS before when they died due to standing in AOEs. I’m not saying that you were doing that, but I have seen a lot of DPS stand in visible AOEs, die, and then immediately blame the healer for not being some godsend that can save them through damage that completely annihilates their HP. I have also been paired with tanks that misuse cooldowns, or don’t use them at all. My favorite will always be a PLD I had in Rabanastre that blew all their CDs INCLUDING Hallowed Ground while they were the OFF-TANK during the third boss, and then when they took over MT, had nothing for Crush Helm.

My experience in dungeons doesn’t reflect any prevalence of the behavior noted in this thread’s OP. I tend to run into DPS that don’t AOE trash packs more often than I run into a healer that is DPS-happy, or even one that refuses to DPS at all and still fails to heal properly. I certainly won’t say they don’t exist, but I don’t think they’re as prevalent as you think.
