Would I have to change my name?

I don't see any other way for them to handle it, so yes, more than likely, you will have to change if you are moving from one server to another.

I don't have any solid details, but for server merges in FFXI you were force to change your name if it already exists. That being said since there is also last name in this game it should be a slim chance for your name to be taken, unless it's something really generic I guess.

I was going to say that, but I did a lodestone search for "Kanade Tachibana" and it actually turned up a surprising number of hits, despite me not knowing where that name comes from.

Yea I did the search as well which is why I brought it up. However when looking at their character profiles they all appear inactive. I don't know if SE will consider this when merging.

Seems like it's a character from an anime, no surprise people will have it.
Unfortunately when it comes to server merge I don't think there's really any 'fair' way to solve this beside having to rename. At least if you have to and being able to redo your character with 2.0 it's like a free ride to re-create your character if you want to :>

There should be some kind of fair way of deciding who had to change.
Like if you had your name first you should be able to keep it.

So basically it'll be the 1.0 servers and the 2.0 servers and no mixing.
Maybe that's a good thing, but i think it's a terrible idea.
