Unable to launch final fantasy xiv updater

    Hello Everyone,
FFxiv was just working for me a few days ago .. just today I went to start it up and received this pop-up dialog box

    *******************************************************************
    Unable to launch final fantasy xiv updater [11035] [30425] [30415] [3] [19900] [3]
    C:/Users/*user*/Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A realm Reborn/downloads/ffxivupdater.exe
    *******************************************************************

So ya I don't know if its server side or something with my PC .. I have already tried to delete all the contents of the My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A realm Reborn/downloads/ folder and I still get the same message.

From here it's either A: reinstall the whole game or B: someone has something else for em to try.
    Thank you for any help

    Hey there!
Not sure if this will help but anyway:
    Open
    \Documents\my games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\FFXIV_BOOT.cfg
with a notepad and find this string there:
    "BootVersionCheckMode"
Then try changing it's value (If it's 1 - change it to 0 and vise versa)
If this won't help - I suggest returning the default value.

    Hello,
Thank you for the reply.. I went into the location you said and mine was set to 0 so I switched it to 1 and still have the same error unfortunately :/
so I changed it back to 0 ..
I have a bad feeling I may have to reinstall the entire game.

Ok so I ended up uninstalling totally and try to reinstall fresh.
I'm using steam BTW which I dont think would make much of a difference if any.
so after steam downloaded the game I go to run it and get this:

So ya .. again I don't know if its my system or there patch server I am slowly leaning towards there patch server.
Guess I will see what happens after the patch tomorrow.

I've found a new ideas on steam, will copy past it here, mb this will help:

"Update for anyone else that runs into this
    I went to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\boot
Rightclicked ffxivboot and ran as admin.
Its updating everything right now. Hope my 4 hours of trial and error helps someone else."

Again.. thank you for the reply.. but even trying to run ffxivboot.exe as an admin .. I still get the same error as in my picture above.
I honestly don't understand it .. how can I be playing the game 48 hrs prior and then all of a sudden bam.. I did have a windows update? literally nothing changed on my system haha. So weird.
I don't know what else to try beside contacting support and see what they have to say ..

Well, 1 more option is to try to temporary switch your antivirus to learning mode, white list whole FFXIV or disable antivirus before trying to start an update...
But don't forget to turn it on later =)

    Ok so Update
    2-20-18
Alright I have found the issue .. if you can believe that lol.
I donno if this is a SE thing or a microsoft thing.. you be the judge.

After taking a shot in the dark, which means turning off ALL firewalls, turning off ALL virus protection (Windows Defender). Hey look it started to download.
So by process of elimination I started to turn everything back on .. and it seams the culprit for all this is, REAL-TIME PROTECTION.. thank you F*ing Microsoft.
Must be the last windows update changed the way this works because I have NEVER had an issue before with windows defender.
    or
SE changed the way they deliver there patches and it set off windows defender.

So anyway.. now that I missed the housing release.. and have had aggravation for the past few days. it looks like all is fixed. Last thing I will try is to add the ffxiv folder to the windows defender exceptions see if that makes it possible to turn the real time back on.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I'm glad you were able to resolve your issue. Make sure to have that exception for the game, you don't want to have the anti-virus off at all times obviously.

This thread will be moved to the 'Closed Concerns' subforum as the thread creator has found a resolution to their issue.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
