I wonder if the JP community has made this connection yet.
This is sick I always wished their was a GM Yoshi-P that of course was Yoshi-P and walked around asking what we thought of the game but, I guess a npc is okay too =)
This is common in large scale games actually. The dev team will usually create characters based on their higher ups, either good or bad. You've worked with people for these ages, so you gotta put them into the art form some how. See Yazumi Matsuno, AKA Yiazmat in FFXII. Listen to Yazmat's history to see how the dev team really though of Yazumi. Hint- it wasn't very nice. Essentially he's a monster who destroys legacy and history.
As others mentioned, Lord British is the king of this. Pretty cool Yoshi has an avatar that is 'in game'. Seeing how I loved the Ultima series and Lord British, I hope they do make him a true character in the game. There's something...oddly fascinating with the character being someone in real life who actively works in the game. Adds a touch of fairy tale story telling to it.
"Chosen to save eorzea" is basically saying he got assigned to work on the game, and save it from the state that it was. Songs of his own adventures are his experience in the field. This is disturbing at least. If this turns to be true, while having a character pretending to be him is nice, the stuff he says aren't the kind of attitude i would expect from him. A bard that not only believes he's the chosen one, sent by gods to save eorzea but that also only sung his own adventures...kinda egocentric/megalomaniac this bard...

At last proof that he doesn't actually play the game =D
I hope for 2.0, one of the gifts to people that have been playing since the beginning is a pair of Yoshida goggles or a red necktie head-band
JP are smart enough to realize this character not only represents Yoshi P, but each and every one of us that continues to support this game.
IT'S CALLED AN ALLEGORY GUISE! Remember that English Litterature class you never payed attention to?
