My attempt to fix our glamour troubles

Greetings fellow Eorzeans, Narthice here and this is my first time creating a thread on this forum. Here I will try explain how I believe Glamour/Style should be handled in Final Fantasy XIV

First Let me introduce you to the "Equipment" and "Style" Tabs in the character window. I've highlighted them in this image below.

Now, let's look at the "Equipment" Tab (highlighted in the image below) Here you equip the gear that will give you stats, such as your Combat, Crafting or Gathering gear.

And now the fun begins, in the "Style" Tab (highlighted in the image below) you equip the glamour gear, this is how your Combat, Crafting or Gathering gear will be projected for others to see. Gear in this Tab will also save to the Gear Set NOT on your Combat, Crafting or Gathering gear.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I should have been a bit more specific. This is just focusing on making the process a little easier when it comes to interface, and separating “stats” gear with “projected” gear by implementing separate tabs. Because we now end up with the problem of shared role gear looking one way. And yes glamour plates+macros fixes some of it but it only works in the cities. The idea was to save this within gear-sets since that information is not stored server side. Yes this still doesn’t solve the storage problem, for that we can only hope they further expand on the glamour toilet. Thanks for your input it's given me lots to think about

I do like the idea of having a style tab. Would make it a lot easier to deal with. What I don't like is the 9999 stacks on ya samurai. Where are my buffs?

Simple. I'd be all for it if they can implement it properly!

The only issue I see with this is that Glamours are still linked to physical items, and are therefore still going to create inventory issues. As an example, consider a fairly 'modest' set of Glamour requirements: one combat class from each role (tank, DD, healer), three Gatherers, and three Crafting jobs. That's a total of 9 jobs. If each has a unique Glamour set, that's roughly 100 item slots eaten up for Glamours alone. That's too many.

Don't get me wrong - I do love the addition of a "Style" tab to individual gear sets. That's clearly the direction SE needs to go in, and your implementation seems smooth and streamlined. However, through some mechanism - most probably an NPC or some sort of interface in Inn Rooms / houses - SE needs to divorce Glamours from physical items via some sort of Glamour Log. That's the only way to permanently end the inventory strain that Glamouring places on people, and that is the core problem that still needs to be solved.

As much as these ideas have merit.

The dressor will work fine...if they just finish it up.

Its so much better than it used to be... I have well over half of my inventory space recovered...they just need to add a few more "QoL" things and we'd be in good shape.

Just tie Glamours to Soul Crystals and problem solved. Oh wait they probably won't do that. Instead, we got Glamour Plates and that is incomplete as 10 is nowhere near enough.

P.S. Hacker alert! Although if you ask me HP and MP should be 65535.

Looks good OP, there's been some amazing community ideas around the Glamour mess. I hope SE gets more of an understanding of what people were hoping for / expecting.

So this is basically the same system that is used in games like Rift. It's nice, but the biggest hurdle is most likely that it'd take up too much data since you're having to load twice as many gear images in (one for the base equipment, one for the glamour style). The only way those games can pull it off is because they normally have the visual quality of a Sega Saturn and gear doesn't take up anywhere near as much data.

The glamour system we use works instead by removing the base gear look and replacing it with the look of the intended glamour item (which is also why you can't use a glamoured item as a glamour), and the glamour plate system we have now is about as close as it'll get. It just requires the resources to expand on it, preferably starting with a glamour dresser housing item so we don't have to keep going back to inn rooms.

Why does everybody want to make it even more complicated.

WoW has transmog (when you get a new item it's unlocked in your log (can destroy the item afterwards) no space limit, it's just a log), talk to the npc select the items you wish on each armor slot and done.
RIFT has costumes which basically works in a similair way as WoW's transmog.
GW2 has costumes which is a log with the ones you own and you just click the one you want to wear (full costume set covers all armor slots), additionally you can also change the look of every single piece individually with a stone and you can change it in whatever item you have unlocked (which is also a log, you don't have a limit or need to have the actual item at the same time).

It's not just Glamour, it's pretty much every system in this game, they always have to make it so complicated ... why?
