So my guess is, you pulled the first trashpack and you single targeted the mobs instead of aoe'ing, valid enough reason to kick a BLM.
Actually, the first mob you see in Temple of the Fist does run up the set of stairs or ramp, can't remember which it is off the top of my head, to a pair of other coeurls...

But on the topic of not wanting a SAM a group, I could see some slight justification in that they can't really do anything other than just doing damage, they've got the least utility of all classes...
