Most players can afford housing and, because they're limited and based on luck, they will only continue to rile the community up. This issue will never go away.

Gil is far too easy to come by and there is nothing outside of housing to really spend it on. This is the particular bane of the crafter/gatherers. I know many people who are gil capped -- some on multiple characters with their retainers capped as well. These people then drop out of the market altogether because there's no real point after getting capped.

We need NPC's that sell exclusive mounts, minions, glam, etc. for exorbitant amounts of gil to act as a gold sink and balance things out. I'm talking big amounts: 250m, 500m, or even 750m. People will buy them.

Now, I hear people saying "but Tempest, I just barely saved up for a house. How can I afford a 750m mount?" You probably won't be able to, not for a while. But MMOs NEED gold sinks to combat inflation. It'll benefit the markets across the board. It'll draw those end game crafters/gatherers who stopped making and selling stuff back, which will drop prices so you don't have to pay as much for those pots or food (warring crafters = price drops.) It'll also take some pressure off the housing situation. Housing is the only status symbol in the game, really. People aim for that because there isn't any choice.

    Please at least consider it SE. Please! ;=;
I agree that real Gil sinks would be ideal, but I don't think your approach is the right one. Truly effective Gil sinks target significant majorities of the player base, rather than small minorities of super-wealthy players. Instead, I'd advise adding higher taxes on the Market Boards, significantly higher Teleport costs, moderately higher repair costs, and across-the-board significant increases for everything sold by NPCs.

That said, as an aside, this probably wouldn't solve the problem of the more profit-oriented omnicrafters capping out on Gil. There's relatively little that can be done there, because they'll always bring in Gil faster than they spend it, if they're trying to earn money. Anyone hitting the Gil cap and growing frustrated should really look in the mirror and ask themselves why in Eorzea they continue to craft for profit when there's no more need for it.

Don't see why they can't introduce both mounts alongside other more sustainable forms of gil sinks. Disciples of hand/land deserve some bling, don't take them for granted, throw us a bone SE!

I'd settle for being able to gather more exclusive items. Unearth a bone mount as a miner, free a rooted treant as a botanist, hook a wild seahorse as a fish. Then let me decide to use them myself or sell them to these people with incredible amounts of gil.

    Status symbol?

    A 750M mount is a status symbol?

The only thing that tells me is that player has nothing else beside FFXIV, online 24/7 and has been playing the market board.

People play this game for different reasons. Some like crafting and gathering, and some like PVE type stuff. And it's not hard to make gil in this game. Obviously, having crafters/gatherers to 70 helps, but you can still make millions if you know how. Just ask the people in your FC for help. We gave tips to an fc-er with only a level 50 bot and he got the 2 or 3 mil he needed in a day. There's way you can make money without spending 24/7 on the MB.

Bah, the Tiger mount it's the same, just replace market board by hunt.

750M is a very extortionate price to pay by any means. Even for those with billions. People being able to afford such luxuries, sure, but people that would actually be willing to dump that much on something I'm sure can be counted on a single hand, so at best you'd drive maybe 1 or 2 crafters on each server to actually bother actively selling for maybe a month, or even a week if they just wait on major patches. So really the desired effect you're actually hoping to achieve would be very short term. Granted you want a more thriving and competitive market (assuming this would actually be a step towards such a thing), having over-extortionate, one-time vanity mounts or minions is a very bad way about going about it.

Aside from extending the amount of MGP that you can trade for with gil, one of the only really feasible long term solutions I can think of would be enabling the purchase of subscription-time with gil.

That being said some of the issues here mentioned are player-related issues, or attitudes as opposed to actual game-related. A player with a million gil, assuming they have the time, patience and self-sufficiency can just as easily compete with someone that has 500M

I'm honestly happy there's a lack of major gil sinks outside of housing, because it would just make the botting issue worse then it already is.

As it stands, I'm not sure why the guys on my server even bother when it's effectively money for nothing (Unless they're secretly involved in RMT).

But, it'll give players a sense of pride and accomplishment© to earn them, just like the Centurio Tiger and Astrope.

For places like Mor Dhona, Idyllshire and Doma where they're in a constant state of rebuilding, they could add an NPC that takes gil donations to help with the "rebuilding". A list of top 20 donors get listed on a board and every month the largest donor gets a giant statue of himself in the town square. Not sure how difficult that would be but the statue can be an up-scaled static model of the donor in whatever gear they were in at cut-off time. people could come up with weird and funny combinations for the town statues.
